Sandtimer?

How do I 'score' this bait for sandtimer purposes. It is by far my longest bait ever (most of my baits end in just a few weeks).

I first baited Ms P0well Williams in early April 2011. It was an dying widow with an inheritance scam. I informed Ms Williams that I was going to use the money, as requested, for religious purposes --- I was going to invest in a chain of brothels which was striving to raise harlotry to a truly spiritual experience. Williams was taken aback by this and went away for a month or two.

Then, Ms Williams came back. This time, my baiting character sought out the assistance of my banker, Melb*urne Drysd*le, who proceeded to chop the mugu's dollar. Ms Williams went away again. For a month or two.

Anyway, I am now pushing 11 months of baiting, but with about 3 "time outs" of 1 or 2 months each, while the sensitive Ms Williams sulked over hurt feelings/dollar chops.

So, do I get credit for 11 months for the sandtimer, or only about 6 months due to her bad "I am not going to play with you any more" attitude?

In my opinion, as long as the lad continues to come back to your same characters, even with breaks, it qualifies for a sandtimer at the end of a year. If a bait dies and you go back and rebait starting fresh with an entirely different character that resets things. except when the new character is in essence a continuation of the original bait. That's how I'm reading your situation: your furst character passed the lad over to another of your characters. So technically that's still the same bait, the lad still believes in your original character but is simply working with your banker. Same bait.

The sticky stipulates that sandtimers are for continuous baits, so it sounds like this wouldn't qualify.

It's still a great accomplishment. Wink

Thanks, Juan. It is the same bait, with several characters involved, no big safaris are "events" but just a basically boring straight bait with a couple of dolla' chops thrown in.

Every time the mugu goes silent and sulks and I think I have lost this mugu, but then Ms Williams comes back for another round of abuse!

Nice job Bruin, you know your lad must be hungry if "she" keeps coming back every few months for more abuse. You must have done something convincing to this one.

The definition of "continuous" is a sticky one, you could always stick a disclaimer next to a sandtimer - my sandtimer lad is coming up on our 8 year anniversary but I don't think I've ever baited him continuously for a whole year.

Continuous means continuous - no gaps - no times when the lad goes quiet but then comes back, or where you stop writing because you're sick of the bait and then pick it back up. I wouldn't consider a week a gap and think it can be overlooked, as long as the whole bait doesn't consist of writing to the lad once every two weeks.

@Branwen: I'm amused by your concept of tacking time on the end to make up for a gap. In your case, not really what I would consider a gap if it's a week, but applied generally, it would be funny to have a "one year continuous bait" take two years to accomplish to make up for gaps. (ie: not actually continuous).

In reviewing the sticky, I fear my initially stated opinion was off the mark. (Good thing I said it was my opinion and not official policy. Laughing

)

It all does come down to defining "continuous," which can be hard to do. But it would seem to be a stretch to allow months to pass and still consider it "continuous."

Ima, of course you're right! I wasn't suggesting a good idea, but merely saying that I'm so fussy that I couldn't claim a sandtimer if I had on my conscience even a one-week gap - so I add that week extra on the end first to feel OK about it. Same as 'lasting longer than 12 months' means to me 12 months and 1 day minimum. And for my last sandtimer, I thought the lad had stopped writing after 12 months exactly, and that was a worrying moment....

Please do add one for a lad who writes for 12 months and not 12 months and one day.
