So, I'm using a core i5 now... and 4gb of totally epic 1333 mhz ram. ;]
Posted are my hackintosh benchmarks (geekbench) followed by a listing of apple benchmarks. Notice the first mac above me is an octo-core (dual-quad) mac pro xD it's also a Nehalem running triple-channel ram (i'm running dual-channel on an LGA1156).
my system cost me ~US $700 to build.
what's an 8 core mac pro cost?
i'll wait. 
edit: $2499 MSRP for the model i mentioned.
I concede that I'm running a 32-bit benchmark; i don't have money to spend on GeekBench. If I did, I'd probably be a premium member. 
Also, paradoxically, there are some older Macs that score higher than newer Macs. xD
update: 64 bit benchmarks :
now i'm beating the 8-core xeon mac pro at the top, which has an MSRP of $3799:
i've got to go through my history and find that page again to get a higher set of mac benchmarks.

are those routers? i don't know much about legacy hardware (especially that which was made before I learned to walk, i.e. before 1991)

These days they have minaturized things a bit, here's mine, all 1 gigabyte. That's a 1 gig XD card being held up, BTW...
