This is weird
I contacted an african Bank about an 419 scam and got this reply.

weirdly the headers in this mail come from France

Anybody guess whats going on? Is this a scam site? And if it was, why would they tell me not to send the money Smile

Ah Answered my own question. They use webmail and the I.P of the site is hosted in Switzerland and registered by a French hosting provider so possibly legit.

if i understood this right, the scammer dropped the name of a genuine bank into his email,
thinking that you might take a look at the site and be impressed how professional it is,
but not anticipating that you would actually make contact with the real bank.

since ecobank has replied to your email, and recognises that this is a scam,
why not have a go at getting them to close the scammer account direct? might be fun!
you can supply the scammer's email as proof that the account is linked to a scam, and ask them to close it,
and ask them if they would reimburse anyone who got scammed through that account in the future.

although i would still report it to alan, as per standing orders.

Yes this is what they have done. This is why this must be a Genuine account. I've already e-mailed alan.
