I just received this email. The links in it go to www.discoxt.com which is apparently software for listening to music. The site seems genuine. What has aroused my suspicion is that I have not purchased the package, have never even heard of it before, I don't use a Mac, and am not remotely interested in it.

Any ideas? Maybe someone has made a fraudulent purchase, maybe it's a mistake, or this is a phishing email but that does not seem likely.

I will email the company and see what they say.

Well I just saw this and got curious about it too. Perhaps you've found this already but the registrant, Aleksi Strandberg shows up here on:
http://www.zoominfo.com/search/PersonQuery.aspx?
as the owner of MakeMusic,Inc. which is a reputable music software company based in Minneapolis, MN.
www.discoxt.com however, is showing the contact is a c/o address in the Philllipines, but that might not mean anything.

That's not a common name, either though, so I'd say it's the same person. Could be a subsidy of MusicMaker,Inc.or DBA? - I don't know.

Also, didn't find anything googling it with scam or fraud, but I didn't dig any deeper than the above.
It was an odd email though. Did they ever reply?

Could it be a legit typo? Someone buying the app entered their email wrong?

If it's a scam it's smarter than your average lad, getting you to download and install software by making it look like commercial 'ware. For a Mac, at that.
