A scam, but for whose benefit???

Hello all,
I am rather new here, but not new to the scam. I work in a financial institution, and see all the fake checks at the FI. We have come across something that puzzled me as well as the others that operate in that realm. Our customers bring in the bogus checks, put them in their account, they bounce, we return them or call them and ask where/who they got the checks from. We also ask if they had anything for sale or responded to anything over the 'net. They usually get kind of dodgy but we push for answers and find out they fell for something or other. Here is the weird part, over that last few months, the people that bring in the checks claim that they are never contacted again about sending the "overpayment" or "sending the merchandise". They are just never contacted again. We all thought that is was kind of chaos type of scam. Just to make things crazy for people or to try to hurt them indirectly. But since joining here, I have come to a new hypothesis....

You folks are the reason!!! You have got so many of the lads running around, they can't remember who they sent checks to or can't find the time to contact them!!!! Well Done!!! Everyone take a bow, have a drink on me, high five each other or give each other a hearty handshake!! Very Happy

You are quite likely right. Another thing to remember is that the scammer who emails you is not the person who is sending the cheques out. The cheques will be distributed by a mule (usually a victim themselves) in your country.

I had 2 cheques turn up last week. One of them was FedEx'd and the lad was on it every step of the way and emailed to say that it had been delivered and had I got it. The other one turned up in regular mail and I haven't got a clue who it was from as none of the lads I'm baiting has claimed it.

It might be due to events like the recent multiple arrests of lads in Canada linky.
Check lads have quite an extensive presence in Canada.
