I have told a lot ofpeople about this site and it is interesting to hear stories from some who were scamed or almost scammed.

One is a friend of someone I work with. He got a great deal on computers that were "surplus" to a big order a failing company made. They had ordered several hundred and with the economic downturn they wanted to cut their losses. Only half price, shipment included. So for $1000 the buyer got the sqare root of SFA. ( Nota: S=sweet, A = All and F = well this being a family show Smile )

Last evening at a resto we ran into an old acquantance. He told us that he got an e-mail from someone moving here from the UK ( I live in Lower Terra Ingognito Smile ) The lad was going to rent a room in a large apartment the victim lives in and in which he rents rooms. The lad wanted to bring his car over..So he sent a cheque via express mail to place in an account he asked the victim to open in the lad's name. My friend asked around about it and was told not to cash it, and send it back.
In the interim the lad e-mailed with the sad news of the passing of hisdear mother ( Likely for the 100th time Smile ) So please cash the cheque as the car would arrive in a week, he would of course arrive 2 weeks after this. Part of the money was for the fees for the car and for an advance on the rent. The deal being the victim would put the money in an accout, thelad would transfer it back..and my firend would be left on the hook for $3500 as of course the original cheque would bounce. My friend was very stressed out by this. I assured him he did the right thing and the lad had moved on to anotehr friend. I guess they scan papers looking for rental properties..
This type of scheme was shown on TV here in Terra Incognita..one fellow was taken for $40,000 as he cashed cheques, forwarded an amount and got a "Commission" for his off shore work...then of course the original cheques bounced. sadly banks have several years here to track such cheques..
