I was scammed on craigslist. A guy possing as a personel manager for Compaq Comuters posted an ad on Craigslist for an online Data Entry Operater. Money was never exchanged, thank goodness, but it could have. He wanted me to get a checking account with wells fargo, so he could direct deposit the checks. He said they only bank with wells fargo. I couldn't get one. Then he wanted me to post an ad on Craigslist for the company with my credit card. I didn't have a credit card, it didn't happen. Then he wanted me to be a Western Union Agent for the company. He would send me information about who would be sending me money, I would pick it up, deduct my fee, then send it on to someone in Africa. AFRICA??? That sounded very fishy. I asked some questions, talked to my husband, and before I could respond he said that he had given the job to someone else, that it was just a test. Well, I looked into Compaq Computers and everything online took me to Hewlitte Pakard. So I emailed someone at HP. They emailed me back and said this was absolutely a scam. No one works for Compaq Computers, HP bought them out. I have not talked to this scammer since. He is back on Craigslist! HE HAS ANOTHER AD ON CRAIGSLIST!!!! It is under a different, smaller, unknown company, and I don't want any one else to get scammed by this guy. I know it is the same guy because he used the exact same wording, down to the exact same tax id #, for both ads. I wouldn't mind someone messing with him and getting him busted. I really don't know what to do. Please if anyone has any suggestions, I would love them at this point. |

Hi, noscams4me, and welcome to Eater!
I'm glad you spotted the problems with the "job offer."
If you really want people to be aware of this scam, you might want to go over to our sister site, www.scamwarners.com, and post as much information as you can on this scammer. The more info - email address, copy of the ad, and emails the scammer sent you - the more likely it is that people googling the info will find out it's a scam.
When you post the emails, include the header if you can, but delete or xxx-out details that might lead to you.
If you want the bugger baited, go ahead and post an email from him - again with headers - either here or in our surplus forum. He will get the attention he deserves. |
