For anyone not accustomed to great acting without fanfare and a PR machine, the name may not be familiar, but Paul Scofield passed away after a lengthly battle with leukemia.
Coincidentally, I was watching a repeat of his most recognised work, the 1966 A Man For All Seasons where he played Sir Thomas More, only last weekend.
He also appeared (more recently) in Robert Redford's 1994 film Quiz Show as poet Mark Van Doren (father of disgraced real-life quiz show contestant Charles Van Doren, played by Ralph Fiennes), where he looked as on top of his game as he did in 1966.
I encourage anyone who enjoys great acting (but not familiar with Scofield...) to take a look at some bits of his work...
(...this is the part where I ask other members who "know how" to post links to bits for others to look at )
Great innings, Mr Scofield. |

Rest in peace, Paul. I have truly enjoyed your work. |
