I am a novice at scambaiting, have tried to bait a few but haven't achieved anything worth printing yet. I received the following, which I have replied to but am not sure of the type of scam - is it just the receipt of a fake/stolen cheque that I send back the difference for?
If so I am not quite sure how to get the best from these lads, how do I keep them strung along?

It's an over- payment scam-
they will send a fake check for too much money and then ask you to WU the difference back to them. |

Yeah, will be check mule.
There "sponsors" will either send all the money to you, not just accommodation fees. So you'd need to send back some money.
Or, they will back out and need a full refund of the fees. |

Make sure you use a fake address or a drop box. (Premium offers the use of some)
Then you can get loads of dud cheques for trophies. |

Please make sure you are baiting safely. If they are contacting you through anything that has your real address or phone number, I would drop them immediately. |

Thanks for the advice - I have a fake e-mail set up for the purpose, was what I received the original scam letter on, but I dont have a fake address yet. I have access to an empty building (all legal and above board) do you think it would be a good idea to use that? it is owned by an anonymous property company, not by an individual. |

Personally, i would still give a fake address, but leave the option open to change it to your deserted property.
I don't know the ins and outs of your arrangement, but i would probably go for it.
Other, better, baiters may say it's not a good idea. The choice is yours, just be sure that the chance of reprisal to anyone other than you is minimal. |

I have had similar ones for roommate ads too. It was obviously Nigerian laddies, and I was sure it was just going to be something where they send a check and then want the money or overpayment sent back.
I would try to keep telling them that it was okay, they did not have to pay at all until they got here, but for some reason they were so insistent on paying upfront. |
