I'm heading to NYC this Saturday with the family on a trip sponsored by work to the Museum of Natural History, but am looking for a good place to eat nearby that is family friendly (maybe a good pizza place). Kids ages range from 3-9.

Any suggestions?

I did that trip with my kids and nephew and niece and related parents and grandparents about six months ago. We ate outside from street vendors (which kids of course love). There's a wide variety of cheap and fairly decent food you can eat from the vendors (everything from hotdogs to falafel to gyros to chinese). We walked over to Central Park and had a nice impromptu picnic.

Of course, it was early fall when we did that and the weather was quite nice. Given that it's 65 degrees today on the East Coast you might luck out on Saturday.

The problem is that's a high rent area, so you're not going to find a ton of cheap, kid-friendly places. Anyway, from memory and some searching, here are some choices which range from chains to local joints:

Pizzeria Uno nearby on 81st I think

Ruby Foo's -- 77th and Broadway -- very kid friendly.

There's a Cosi nearby as well (76th?) -- lots of salads/sandwiches/soups. Laid back but good food.

EJ's Luncheonette -- Amsterdam between 81st & 82nd -- fun and friendly.

There are delis and the like around as well, but not sure how accommodating to a larger group they would be.

Eh, looking ahead it's only due to be about 40�F with chance of rain in afternoon so I definitely don't want to venture far from the museum if I don't have to. I've been to NYC many times on my own or with someone else, but never had to keep to a specific region. I'd prefer not to hit a 'chain' restaurant and go to any 'famous' or 'mom & pop' type place instead.

Never heard of Ruby Foo's, I'll have to take a look at that one.

Oh, and the food carts are already in my target, I've already promised the kids each one of the huge cart pretzels. Very Happy
