When did Gmail change its web interface slightly? I only noticed it recently when a bait switched to a Gmail account and I started to use it heavily.
I must say, I don't like those little changes at all.
Click on the Reply button and look at all the useless cr@p that gets put in your quote material.
When I make a transcript of a bait, I click on "Show details" and select and copy the email 'brief' headers (From, To, Date, Subject) along with the email body, and paste that into a Word document. As with "Reply", look at all the extra cr@p that gets dragged along with the stuff that you want.
Send your Gmail account an email from a different email address/mail client and put in a really long line of text. Not continuous characters, but a proper sentence that just happens to go on for a bit. Don't put any forced CRs in. Send it.
When it gets to Gmail, each line is truncated and CRs are inserted at the end of each line. Meaning when I copy it into a Word document I have to rejoin the lines to make them wrap to my page margins properly.
How annoying!
At least there's an "Older version" link at the top to take me back to the useful version. Be still, my blood pressure.
EDIT: Hmmm... point 1 seems to have been fixed since I got really annoyed by it this morning. I don't think my post here had anything to do with it. Did it?!? |

It gets worse Otter!
To log into my main collating account with Opera looks something like this. Pop name and password in, wait 2 minutes for the thing to return to the log in page. Hit the troubleshooting link, take sip of coffee, then quickly hit the back button twice, then refresh...
Or if that doesn't work, go to the trouble shooting link, hit some random selections, click the Gmail logo and hope that brings me into the account.
And if that doesn't work, hit the right options in troubleshooting (except they don't have Opera listed as a browser!), get the HTTPS link, hit it for a new tab and cross fingers.
Its almost annoying enough to make me consider going back to IE7 as my default browser. |

Lokie: How about using Firefox? Please don't turn to the dark side!
Music Man: That's my biggest complaint about Gmail, but that's always been such an embedded feature it's pointless even complaining about it any more. Sure, "Labels" is a lovely idea, but what's wrong combing the two, labels and folders? I'm not the greatest person for actually organizing stuff in the real world, as I tend to have a rather good memory for keeping tracks of things, but I still dislike to log in to Gmail and see all the emails I have ever received splattered all over the first screen I encounter. It lacks... finesse. |

Not to mention whatever change they made messed up my Gmail Manager plugin by not showing when new mails arrive. I found a fix for it here but for some reason I can only get the fix to work on my Portable Firefox, not my home desktop version.
If it wasn't for it's IP stripping, I'd stick 100% with Yahoo for mail. |

For the e-mail you have received you can "archive" it. It will then not appear in the in box, but be available if you click "all mail". |

Ah, thanks The Man!
Mainly for describing what the "Archive" button did. I was always too scared to try it.
Isn't that similar to sweeping all the dust under the rug, though? |

Yes and no. It does get it out of the in box. If you want folders, labels really do the same thing. You can create a label, apply it to the e-mail, then archive it. If you create a label then you can go into the "all mail", down the left you will see all the labels you have, click on one and poof you will just see the e-mails with that label.
Very similar to a folder if you think about it. Plus you can assign more than one label to an e-mail, so it is in two folders then. Also you can create a rule to apply to incoming e-mail to give it a particular label.
Anyway, no gmail does not have "folders", but you can effectively do the same thing.
I use gmail and inbox.com as my two main e-mails for baiting. I like the both about equally. Inbox has folders, but gmail seems somewhat more intuitive for me. |

I think that's the important issue... Gmail seems anti-intuitive to me. When I use Gmail, it feels like I'm wearing clothes that have shrunk in the wash. Whereas if I use a mail service that uses folders, then it's like a comfy sweater that fits perfectly and I've had for a few years and feels very familiar.
I'll now stop with the clothes similes. Too many and it's like shoes that are.... okay, I'll stop. |

Otter: Inbox.com has folders, 5gb of storage and strips the IP for you
I use it for one of my characters.
You can also access it via pop 3 (so Outlook or whatever) or you can have it check other e-mail accounts for you via pop 3.
But yeah, there are lots of e-mail options out there... use one you like |

^^ Yes, there are!
When I was researching all the different email services that people were suggesting to me for the "Find email headers!" collection of documents, of course I had to set up an account for each one so I could get in and play around with it.
I amassed a collection of email addresses from that, on top of the ones I already had for my baiting purposes, that is truly frightening. Thankfully, some of them expire after a period of disuse (Hushmail.com after three weeks, for example) but the rest will probably outlive me. I might pass on their details in my will to my descendants. Don't worry, though, I'll make sure I share them out equally. Don't want any, you know, tension in the executor's office. |

I love Gmail's archive system, but folders certainly wouldnt go amiss. The most annoying thing about Gmail is how it bunches up emails into 'conversations' - absolutely crap for ASEMS, I hope they include an option to turn it off with this update.
I hate the changes too - it's slower and clicking on things doesnt feel right. This link: https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1 lets you log straight into the old Gmail, though, so it fixes the problem of effectively having to log in twice to get to the older interface.
@OD, the fix worked for me on portable and my home computer, I cant tell you why it might not be working for you though. Are you sure you're doing it right? |

Hey guys,
Does anything get added to the email header if your using a local POP3 client for a webmail account, specifically something that could give you away? |

Some of my Gmail accounts have gone "new" beta, and some have stayed the same.
The "new beta" takes a decade to load, and as others have said, is full of crap.
Clicking "Older Version" seems to bring things back ...but to I really have to do this each time ?
... and yes it does Billk ...just use the web-based version. |

I read somewhere that they're changing accounts over in stages, most of my mains ones have gone to 'new Gmail', but I still have a few that havent yet. |

Yes. If you use Outlook with Gmail your IP is NOT hidden.... it will show your actual IP rather than the IP of the Gmail server.
Note To Don: This is not paranoia, just answering the question |

@Otter
Opera isn't the darkside, its the fast, secure alternative to IE.
@Everyone else
The only use I've found for labels, is to have a main checking account with labels for every character, and then have a filter to apply that label to the forwarded email. |

Gmail has folders; they are called labels. It's just that a conversation can be in more than one of them. For general one-on-one baiting I find gmail wonderful; there is no need to keep swapping between inbox and sent-box to read past mails. But there are a couple of features it really must have:
1. Ability to split conversations - It really is a pain getting all the replies to an ASEM in one conversation
2. Ability to join-up two conversations - for when your lad keeps changing the subject line |
