Ok, so I'm a complete moron when it comes to Audio/Video. I have a couple of questions.

1) I have Direct TV w/DVR at home. Can I hook up a DVD recorder to burn the programs I record? -- South Park, Reno 911, Steelers Games on NFL Network, etc?
2) If #1 is possible, can I set it up to copy these programs on to DVD w/o the damn commercials?
3) What brand do you recommend?
4) Will you come over and hook it up for me?

I have a DVD Recorder (for the TV) and one on my PC (tv tuner). They can only record regular cable channels, nothing higher like digital channels.

As far as I know, commercials are recorded too. I just fast forward them just as a VCR. I've never used anything that detected when commercials are on, so I don't know how good they'd be anyway.

I currently have a Toshiba DVD Recorder (I'll look at the model # when I get home from work).

You could get a digital USB receiver for the computer with a copy of EyeTV, then you can edit out all the breaks and burn off a copy.

We have a DVD recorder with a hard drive so we can record straight to the DVD or to the hard drive.
We can also record to our Foxtel digital unit and watch later. If we used the Foxtel unit we can record to the DVD recorder while we watch if it is something we want to keep.
I have no idea how everything works apart from pressing the buttons but my sons hooked everything up for me.

1 - Yes asd long as you have all teh right cables and connectors.

2 - No

3 - All the big brans are fairly similar, thing to watch out for is the + and -
The + and - at the end of the dvd's make a big differance, they are different formats. When you buy a dvd player you should take note of which type of disk it plays. You could pay the extra money and go for a dvd player that plays both types of disks but thats up to you.

They are the same thing really and maybe things have changed since i last looked but all you need to look for is buying the right type of disks to record on.

2- Yes if you edit it afterwards using the edit function in your DVDR machine

Our DVDR has a commercial skip button on the remote.

But that's coz we're posh.
