Did my lad really come to the US?

I have been stringing a lad on for about 2 weeks now and have "agreed" to pay him $5200 so that I can get my hand on his fund of 8.5 million! Anyway, he claims to have flown to Maryland in the US from Africa in order to give me my money and says I must pay him cash in hand at the airport. Today I got a voicemail saying he had arrived and was waiting for me at the airport! Is he likely there or is it just a ploy to get money from me in some other way?

No one flew over from Africa. Either your lad is lying, was already in the US, or arranged to have one of his US based associates meet you there.

Point is that a lad is quite obviously not going to fly to the US for a $2500 pay day.

I just priced tickets from JFK to Ghana and it was only $1600 round trip.

Doesn't change the basic fact that they didn't come - but just FYI.

Yeah, I just ran the prices again on kayak.com, and it's about $2k from [My airport] to ACC. I realize now that the $4k price I got was for running last-minute tickets. I was just seeing if I could afford to fly to Accra for the massive lad meet on May 1st Smile

Either way, $2k is an immense sum to lads.

Maryland being adjacent to Washington, The Lads indeed have 'bag-men' in the DC area. NYC and LA connections too at all times on the ready. Dallas/Houston are also on their radar.

So what are you planning to do about the airport meet?

Would be fun to be undercover and film the guy waiting, though thats very risky.

What if you contacted police and tipped them of this scammer? Or would that not do much at all?

Hi. Not quite sure on the gist of your reply above, either way.

But in any event, The Lads often cite US diplomatic connections in Washington DC---all flights in via Maryland---and they expect that if the scambaiter says they are familiar with the area, an arrangement can indeed be set up. This was shown by reporter Brian Ross on a 419 Scam on tv on 20/20 last Dec 2006. [The lad in my sig below intended to meet me in suburban Maryland outside DC]

This may be a little irrelevant, but the couple of lads I've baited, "soldiers" bringing home Saddam's money both had an airport rendevous at which the "diplomats" were to be paid.
As far as I know, they are still waiting at San Diego airport. I don't even live in US. My Flextel No had something that sounded like static on voicemail. I would assume that was how they expected to collect, as no other options were canvassed.

Your USA-SoCal connection might have a bag-man in the LA area--but not San Diego. It's too far for them to risk driving, and too close to Mexico. The Tijuana crossing is the busiest and most scrutinized border-xing on the planet. You might lure them across the border to Aunt Jane--[Tia Juana]--easy to get into--to seal the deal. The Lads surely know that the fake passports they most likely have would immediately get them in trouble trying to get back into San Diego, if they actually considered sending a guyman down for your bait.
