On Saturday morning, Dick set the wheels in motion to get money to David’s hotel and travel agent. To the hotel manager, he wrote:

After all, as a business attorney, Dick knows that the quickest and easiest way to transfer funds is bank-to-bank transfer. And that way, there is no need for the pesky HLS forms, as the funds are obviously going to a business to pay for services rendered.

Dick has some questions for David about the rest of the money he wants sent.

Saturday evening, Emily was in better spirits and beginning to recover physically.

We have had some good news from the police today. Those stupid gang members used my cellphone to make calls to their dealers. The cellphone company had put a tracer on the phone just in case it was used, and the police were able to zero in on the man who was making the call. He is being questioned now, and he may turn in his fellows in order to try to get a lighter sentence. The only negative thing in this news is that I may be asked to identify the gang members who are rounded up and tell the police if they were in the money store when I was there. I don't want to have to look at their faces again, but they need to be punished for their criminal acts.

Mother just told me she suggested the Ambassador as an avenue of help for you. Oh, please let her call him! He is such a nice man, and I just know he wouldn't let an American be stranded in Nigeria. He knows what the country is like.

I'll post today's email from the hotel manager (no doubt David or one of his associates) later. But I just realized that I have been baiting this lad for more than a month! I never would have thought I could keep a bait going even this long, so I have incentive to keep it going now.

Of course, Dick won't be sending the money until Tuesday. That means that a week after David first thought he was going to get the money, he still won't have it. Twisted Evil

And of course, the hotel manager will have to deal with Dick's insistence on bank transfer, and the travel agent will have to deal with M7CN S3cur3 or a similar modality. After all, Dick is a very cautious man. Twisted Evil

I love how, in his previously posted emails, David is so supremely confident that Dick will take care of everything. I guess I did a good job in creating Dick’s character as a take-charge kind of man.

Here is the email from the hotel manager.

I’m guessing that the “MD” stands for something like “Managing Director,” rather than “Medical Doctor.” And I tried to google Morgan Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria, with no results.

Dick and Susannah were too busy to write to David. But Emily had to send him her daily letter.

Throw your pet a bone by telling him that you are not playing games and this is a simple matter of giving you a bank account for the money to go into, of course if he prefers he could always complete the secure transaction, after all, whenever you recieve money this way it only takes 5 minutes or so to complete for people with high inteligence it should only take 5 or 6 minutes or about 10 minutes for those with medium inteligence Laughing

@Murry, I sort of did what you suggested. I’ll drag it out a bit. Dick is certainly not playing games. After all, he is an attorney. Notice that his email, sent this morning, is not quite as friendly as past emails.

I have received several notifications that “the mugu has landed,” but each time after the first, it’s an empty email. Could it be that MTCN S3cure can’t be used in some internet cafes? Actually, I think it’s a form of nemesis that Emily has swallowed David’s whopping lies all along and does not believe him when he’s telling the truth.

David has had some time to calm down after his frustrated emails of Wednesday. He almost apologizes to Dick. At least he doesn’t accuse him of playing games anymore. He even thinks MTCN S3cure is a great modality.

One advantage of having the money go through Dick is that Emily does not need to be bothered with such things. She is recovering from a serious injury, and David seems to remember that. He even manufactures an excuse why Dick couldn’t reach him by phone (of course, I didn’t even try).

I remember the stories of soldiers who single-handedly captured several enemy combatants. When asked how they did it, they each replied, “The usual way – I surrounded them.” Well, that’s kind of how I feel in this bait. I’m surrounding David. He gets emails from three different members of the Geisel clan, each of whom must be treated differently. Yet he must be polite and friendly to all because the family is so close that being rude to one will offend them all. And they keep promising help and money; it’s not their fault that he can’t collect it.

He’d just better be grateful that Emily’s father hasn’t joined the party. Mr. Geisel will only get involved if David deserves a very heavy dose of slappage.
