Based on the experiences of other lads that have safari'd to Chad, he has no idea how LUCKY he was not to be granted entry into that fooking country. Smile

You really have to wonder what the immigration officials were thinking when the lad handed them the SH (Edited this name to prevent searches - bware) letter and tried to explain everything. Really I wonder if they think this lad was the victim of an elaborate prank, was trying to bullshit his way into the country or whatever. I can just see them sitting around the break room with their fellow officers laughing their asses off at this fool.

Congrats, you two. The lad pain is wonderful with this one.

Mountain Goat, how nice indeed to see you back! Your absence was painfully felt all around. There are queues of amorous men lining up outside my door, asking for you. - As for your question: Mr Geoffrey and I are inconsolable regarding the outrageous treatment our prospective business partner received at the hands of those ignorant Chadian immigration officials. At the time Mr Gilbert was being detained, heaven and earth were being moved to get through to him to ascertain the situation and to render assistance, but it seems that nothing would have changed the rigid mindset of the commander in charge. All this was particularly heartbreaking as there was an entire welcoming committee of friendly locals and workers in Abeche, assembled by Mista Babangoh, waving flowers in their Sunday best as they eagerly awaited the visitor from Ghana.

In all probability there are now two courses of action Mr Geoffrey and Mista Babangoh are going to pursue: First, they are likely to launch a full investigation into the handling of Mr Gilbert's arrival in Chad with a view to bringing the person or persons responsible to book. They intend to consult with their local community leader who may be able to bring some political clout to bear; the actions of the airport officials were to the detriment of the local economy, something these stupid officials never considered. Furthermore, legal advice is to be sought to see whether anything can be done to effect some kind of redress.

Secondly, Mr Geoffrey and Mista Babangoh by no means consider this unpleasant episode the end of their blossoming business relationship with Mr Gilbert. As far as they are concerned, the carefully crafted business agreement still stands; hence, they intend to devise an alternative meeting at a different location which their valued business associate will be able to reach without encountering narrow-minded, by-the-book officials. Both Mr Geoffrey and Mista Babangoh are somewhat occupied at the moment; however, determining a time and place of the next meeting is at the forefront of their minds and Mr Gilbert should be hearing alternative suggestions in the coming week. Even though Geoffrey and Babangoh do not bear any responsibility for this most inopportune mishap, Mr Geoffrey has already intimated that he intends to make a noticeable contribution towards making up for the stress and strain Mr Gilbert was subjected to. So at minimum he will be afforded first class treatment at one of the other SH branches.

Tazmanian, it would appear that the sole reason why Mr Gilbert was refused entry to Chad was the absence of a visa.

Modokmind, we know that Mr Gilbert handed $100 to a Ghanaian airport official on departure, and it is probably safe to say that a few more dollars expenditure were associated with his general travel arrangements; I would not be surprised if the total is approx. $3000. Needless to say that both Mr Geoffrey and Mr Babangoh are severely broken up about this and may well contemplate the services of a qualified grief counsellor.

However, so good to hear that he and Mr Ge0ffrey are going to such great lengths to continue to take care of Mr Gilbert and his recent problems. So good to hear that our Ghanaian friends in need are so well catered to.

Congrats to both of you, TM and Britannicus, on a well-done and painful safari. Rumor has it, though, that many of the Chadian police are susceptible to bribes, so it could be that your lad just forgot to put a picture or two of a US president in his passport...
