imik@ Drain all the old gas from the tank, if it's a carbed bike, there should be a drain screw under the carb bowl....drain as much as the old gas out of the carb, lines...tank...as possible.
Top off the tank with fresh stuff, with a little techron or some fuel additive if you want.
New sparkplug/plugs help too,

Gas goes bad in about a month, unless you use a fuel stabilizer.

You also want to store the bike with a full tank of gas.......that keeps condensation from forming inside, adding water to the gas...and rusting the inside, which causes other problems.

^^ that`s the next job. Charged the battery up yesterday & there's a good strong spark at the plug. Hadn't intended to have it off the road this long, but the weather`s been so lousy until recently the car seemed more practical.

Edit: battery went flat fairly quickly - didn't give it a full charge so it's back on the charger again. Drained the fuel from the tank, line & carb

Now, here's the thing - took my proper, approved by Halfords, green plastic fuel can to the local Sainsburys to fill up. Fuel can supposedly has a max capacity of 5 litres. Filled it up to around 1/2 inch below the neck. According to the pump, I'd put over 5.5 litres in. So someone's lying. Either the container capacity is very generous, or Mr Sainsbury is going to get a nasty letter. Mad

Now I need to find an accurate 1 litre measure.

Edit II: IT LIVES!! Now, does anyone know the best way to get rid of mould from inside a tank bag?

Petrol expands with a bit of heat,or if the jug is sitting in the sun.

The stated capacity probably allows some room for expansion.

What is the tank bag? Nylon?

Bringing bikes out of storage can be dangerous!

One guy I know stored his in an old barn.

Spent a day getting it running. Took it out for a spin.....noticed a tugging on his arm, and a rather large, non lethal snake that had taken up residence somewhere in the bike....was not happy about going down the highway at 100 kmh.

Shocked

Myriad stories of rats,bugs, spiders.....insects seem to like the air filter area.

Best to keep the damn things running.

I'm gonna measure it just the same - at almost 1.20 per litre I'm not prepared to take any chances!

Think the bag's nylon/polyester.

No chance of snakes round here - they'd never get up the hill!

Is it a magnetic or strap on tank bag?

All I can think of is washing it with a mild soap maybe using a scrub brush...then letting it dry in the sun...if you have any

Magnetic. To be honest, it was a cheapie from Aldi (may have been Lidl). Might just use rucksack instead.
