FWIW, Karl is still stuck on trying to figure out all the initial paperwork. He has managed to send each character one of the others' emails just to confirm he's received ... stuff and info ... from all.

Karl received a note from the Mme stating she is in dire straits, and heading into surgery, and needs him to make his plans to come see her ASAP. Karl responded that he has sent in the paperwork for his passport, but it's going to take some time.

Poor Karl, he may have filled it out incorrectly. Also, his sister just opened a marine business and he's helping her out.
