Maybe a picture, after all, if she is going to meet him, she will want to be sure it is him and his "guards" and not some imposters.

So, we have a very interesting situation here. Some background:

-- I first baited the lad for a little over 6 months starting in June 2011. He bored me and I dropped it, aside from him writing every month or so and me repeating a demand for a trophy pic. A nothing bait.

-- He came back last month with a hideous photoshop but my character bought it as real, and decided to travel to Cameroon to meet him.

-- My fake lad, who had been scamming my character before this all started, enters the picture. Real lad totally buys his story and partners with him.

-- My character goes to the 5imba camp, the lad can't find his way, my fake lad steals half of my character's money, and the real lad gets hyper-suspicious of the whole thing, sensing that he's been baited but not understanding because "how do you get paid?"

-- Just as everything seems lost, a wonderful fellow baiter makes a long phone call that totally brings the real lad back in. Terrific. The lad gives a new email address for 'security.'

-- Today my character gets a string of mails from the new address that are nothing like the lad's normal writing style. First all caps, then run-on sentences, then a super-long mail with threats and promises mixed together. Weird beyond understanding. I know this lad's writing style, this was a dramatic change.

-- Also, the emails misspell the lad's fake name repeatedly. Very suspicious since he never, ever did that before.

-- The lad also insisted he couldn't write from his old address because my fake lad hacked his box. Yet, later one an email came from the old box, written in the lad's normal style.

-- Conclusion: something is forked here.

And this is where my esteemed colleague and frequent co-baiter bohigal comes in with the obvious answer: real lad had a great opportunity with a rich maga traveling to his area. He blew it. His oga is pissed. Lad is not running this solo; he's just one low-level guyman in a gang of lads. And because of his screwup, my character was passed on to a higher level lad, who doesn't have a clue how to write like the original lad and can't even spell his character's name.

Duh. I can't believe I didn't see the obvious signs until bo pointed that out. But then again, I've only been actively baiting for a little over 10 years. Laughing

But actually I'm serious: we are all constantly learning. Despite my experience as a baiter, this time I missed the obvious. Bo's conclusion is the only logical explanation for all the anomalies that had left me scratching my head.

So this is better than ever. My lad is trying to recover his maga on his own, while his partner or boss is trying to play me from a different address. Their stories are at odds with each other. Confusion reigns supreme.

Now comes the hard part: playing one lad against the other without them realizing it. I'm not sure I can pull it off but I'm sure going to try. My character is there, she's panicked, she still has at least $50K in cash. What lad wouldn't salivate over that? And if necessary, the very generous baiter who placed the first phone call is willing to do another. As I said before, nothing like a call to make lads believe.

Moving forward: my character just replied to the real lad's mail from his original address, sent to my old address. This has to be the original lad, not his boss. It's the middle of the night in Cameroon but my character is too afraid to sleep:

I wish my husband had never gotten involved with this contract. It has become a nightmare for me. I'm so scared I don't know what to say. I must get away. Well, we have proof that bohigal's theory is correct. Original lad screwed up and the job has been passed up the line. It may or may not be the oga, but it's another lad who has a very different way of writing, and who also often misspells his own (fake) name.

As I posted last night, I finally got an email from original lad's original email address, sent to my character's original address. All the strange previous posts were from a new address to a 'new' account I set up because of fear of "harking." So in my last post I replied to original lad, from original account to original account. (Confused? Laughing

)

This morning, my time, I find two emails from the new address. Very clearly the new lad had not seen the email I wrote last night because it went to the original lad.

Well, isn't that interesting. It's a direct reply to my mail from last night. Either this lad believes that fake lad and my character are one and the same, or he accidentally sent that to my character while intending to send it to fake lad's address. I responded:

That was an hour ago. Nothing from him since.

My guess is that original lad is in deep shite for messing up the job. I suspect he is very unhappy about the job being taken from him. He might very well have intended to send that insult to my character, even if he doesn't suspect that fake lad and Sue are the same person.

Meanwhile, New Lad responded to my puzzled email with another overly long, oddly-phrased mail that does not sound like Stupid Lad.

So he's trying to figure out if Stupid Lad is still in contact with me from the original address. (The other one he mentioned was one of two he gave in the phone call. I haven't used that.)

The baiter who made the call the other night confirms that the lad continues to call the number, despite being told it was a borrowed phone. Hopefully this will get through his thick skull and he won't keep pestering my baiting friend:

I'm loving this. We have a lad who tried for over 2-1/2 years to hook me. He finally did, I went to Cameroon, and everything imploded. Now he's in deep doo-doo with his boss, who has handed me off to another lad. They are desperate to get their hands on the $50K that is right there in their own back yard, if only they can convince my character to say where she's staying.

Plus, if I'm reading this correctly, New Lad is not going to be happy to discover that original Stupid Lad is writing to me from the old account. He may end up in deeper doo-doo....

Then Susan will wait i an other city close by and wait for the manager to call.

The very real and very disturbing part of this bait is that this lad believes this woman is real and in great danger--AND his full intent is to use her fear to make sure she suffers a terrible fate at his own hands. Were Sue real and were he to get her alone, her odds of being murdered and perhaps raped and tortured as a warm-up exercise are great.

These utter scumbags can amuse us with their frustrations and varied levels of absurdity and illiterate screed, but we should never forget that this is a horrible criminal. He is a man who would likely kill this innocent woman and then brag about it to his fellow guymen. He would happily destroy his victim and would have no trouble telling his wife or children about how smart he was to pull it off. This man is a villain equal to any pile of human garbage ever depicted on television or in movies. And, unlike the lady, this is indeed a real person. He's out there, along with thousands of others who like him, would gladly do the same.

I do hope that we can get New Lad even more forked that Stupid Lad.

With that in mind, it might be good to hint at trusting him--find out his plan to meet the victim and then redirect him. I want this lad to safari and suffer.

Great points which we often overlook when we're into a superficially comic situation. It's funny for us only because we know the victim is fake. But for the lad this is all too real, and there's nothing he won't do to get the remaining money.

Trusting him is exactly my next modality. This just went out:

No pictures yet. It also occurred to me that when the original lad had a meltdown the other day and sent the laddish curse from his original box, the oga is probably unaware. And would probably not be happy with the lad if he realized that he was potentially jeopardizing the job. I hope this gets original lad in even deeper trouble.

That writing style is more in the vein of original lad. I wonder if he got the job back somehow? This was sent from the new address, and the apology implies that it's not New Lad, who wouldn't know about the insult.

But-- he signed off as 'Commander' rather than 'Commandant', and he's never done that before. So I'm not entirely sure what to think here.

Of course I'm curious to see what picture he sends tomorrow. The hideous photoshop from before? If so it would mean that's his real face pasted into that mess of a fake image. Whatever, I just need confirmation that the face in the photo matches the person who will come help me.

Take a close look. How old do you think he looks? Back when original Stupid Lad was friends with my fake lad, he said he was 26. He had no reason to lie about that to fake lad. Suffice it to say, it seems clear this is New Lad.

It's late evening in Cameroon. My character is trying to sleep. Still having trouble because of her terror, but trying.

Tomorrow I'll let him know where to meet me.

After posting that I realized it's only 10PM in Cameroon so I decided to respond, and push harder on the insult that original Stupid Lad sent. I want him to get in serious trouble for that. So for now I'm praising New Lad and asking for a more humble apology. Tomorrow we'll get down to the business of picking me (and my money) up.

The picture might not be of actualy New Lad, but rather a trusted enforcer type that the oga wishes to send to get you. This guy looks like trouble and that he could easily overpower a frightened, middle-aged woman.

You could be right. But either way there will be a problem once the lad, or his oga, learn that my character is not in Yaoundé as they believe.... She will now only deal with the lad in the picture. She won't trust anyone else.

Bright and early, after a sleepless night, my character finally lets the lad know where she is. He's got a safari ahead of him....
