I'm here because of the programme, so I'll say hallo. Have been formulating plans for my first attempt and actually registered earlier today.

I signed in on two guest books and left a nice juicy carrot. Now waiting for my first nibble. Wink

I've had odd experiences with new catcher accounts, sometimes there's been a mere dribble for weeks, then a sudden deluge - as if I'd suddenly gotten passed to dozens of lads at once. Other times it's been fairly constant from the start. But you can always pick-up new lads in surplus ( http://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=18 ) or at http://www.scamwarners.com

Just found the time to watch the programme, everybody else has already praised it, I can not add any thing else.

Now that you have a contact with channel 4, do you know if they have any plans on doing a programme just on baiters and their past operations?

Well, i doubt that they do anything about the past things unless there is footage of it as it is a TV channel afterall.

And maybe not Channel 4 but eventualy some channel is going to do so. Possibly sooner than you think.

Ahmastin Geebougah, I guestbooked myself to around half a dozen guestbooks in the last couple of weeks, and now get a fairly reliable 4 - 5 good scams a day coming my way.

But do check your spam folder. Not sure what e-mail provider you are using, but I've found that EVERYTHING without exception that arrives in my catcher account is classed as spam. I wonder why??!

I would LOVE to see the lad's face at the moment his gold went flying. That had to have the look of a bad dog getting hit with a newspapaer when it tries to steal food from the dining table.

Any chance there is a clip or a good still of it to be shared?

From the legal standpoint, how did tossing the Gold Lad's sample into the sea avoid classifaction as a crime itself?

I'm sure the lad is unlikely to press charges given that he couldn't testify without self incrimination. And of course, I'm pleased the scammer ends leaving with less than what he arrived having--especially if he has to go back and report not just a failed scam but the loss of gold that assuridly was not his own.

But I'd expect under British law that taking gold from a scammer and tossing still qould be considered stealing. This seems rather like cash baiting even when one clearly does not keep the cash.

^^^^ Can he prove it was gold? I'm sure that he has sent pictures of fake gold bars so there is no reason to think that it was real gold.

The Theft Act 1968 defines Theft thus "Basic definition of theft.

(1)A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it; and “thief” and “steal” shall be construed accordingly."

No intention to permanently deprive, nobody would stop the scammer from walking into the ocean to recover the whatever it was.

Also, no Dishonesty is involved (well, maybe in getting the guy to the location) and the lad hardly can claim that the gold belonged to him.

I just watched it on youtube and I wanted to ask what was the final mental tally that was done on the amount of money that guy spent to get to Rame Head in Cornwall. It had to be over $ 3,000.

When the lad got snotty about it, I told him to call the police and I'd explain everything to them. Obviously, he didn't want to do that. I kept insisting but for some reason he kept refusing.

He got off lightly though. I really wanted to throw him in rather than the gold and only the cameras stopped me from doing that.

That confirms it for me that his 'sample' wasn't actually Gold, otherwise he would have gone after it (who wouldn't?). I assume it was a bag of gold coloured dust? It usually is. Probably just a bag of crushed up pyrite ('fools gold', iron sulfide FeS2, has a metallic luster and a pale brass-yellow hue similar to gold, but is naturally abundant and not worth much). The reason they show it off crushed into dust is it's usually found in the form of cuboid crystals, where as gold is usually nuggets or ore.

He wouldn't have retrieved it, because throwing the pyrite dust into the ocean would have oxidised it, turning it brown. This wouldn't happen with real gold.

Nope. It was a small ingot. Like a mini dog tag.
And we think it was real (or so The Monsignor reckons) - he took it around the corner when the lad arrived to "assay" it. He told me that it was hallmarked.
It was probably worth £30-£50.

The lad couldn't have gone in after it. Not unless he had SCUBA - the water where I threw it is pretty deep (The Mayflower sailed to the US just a few yards away from where it went splash).

Another reason for it being real gold is that the lad expected a person that know gold to assay it. And had he brought fake shit he would have lost him a chance to scam poor me out of £200,000. No way it was fake.

Edit: that was some serious storm damage. I went that just a month ago and the track goes really close to the shoreline. The scenery was astounding.
