I figured this would be as good a place as any to moot the pros and cons of this.

Marv has outdone himself and has created this incredible poster for my safari lad (thread here: http://bravodelta.servemp3.com/viewtopic.php?t=118297 ).

Those following will know that I have told the lad that the delegates i sent to meet him were found dead. Well in my last email I told the lad that the police might have suspected he was involved, and Marv made this up:

The question I have is... if I send this to the lad will he turn himself into police and thus cause all sorts of problems for the police?

If so... would this breach ITP rule?

While he is a criminal, he is not, to my knowledge, a murderer and I would not want to waste police time. At the same time, he has left Gambia and is on his way back to Nigeria (currently in Senegal).

Perhaps we should tone it down and say "in connection with advance fee fraud"?

Then if he does turn himself in maybe he'll make a confession?

What do you all think?

BTW: I think you'll agree, Marvinator has out done himself... this is an incredible creation. Oh, and all the details are accurate, they're from his real passport.

Were there any actual murders that would fit the circumstances of your fake killings the police could possibly link your lad to?
I know that's probably an unknown, but it illustrates the probability of the police not spending a great amount of time on this guy.
Supposing they question then release him in, say 24 hours, even then you may want to weigh the pros of what you accomplished with the cons of wasting even a small amount of the cops' time.
A lot of maybes, but the one that I would have a problem with is the cops spending even a couple of hours on this fool over a crime he didn't commit.

That being said, I like your idea about changing the offense on the poster to 419 scams, not that I think he'll turn himself in, but it'll give him something to be nervous about. Wink

Given that he will have the only copy of the poster, I think it would be quite a stretch if he would turn himself in for participating in what many Nigerians consider the 'national past-time'.
And if he decides to confess? hahahaha I've always heard that the cops are happy to accept a small dow in return for allowing lads to pursue their 'work'
I say go for it with the '419 version' of the poster!

As far as I am aware from reading Gambian papers for the last couple of days there has been no such reported murders.

Although a newspaper article i sent the lad says otherwise Twisted Evil

(fake of course).

The AFF thing might also do the trick but i would love for a lad to go to ground in Nigeria thinking that interpol is chasing him for murder Laughing

I think you can put your mind to rest over wasting police time. The chance of a lad handing himself in to the nearest police station because of a shopped poster is zero.

I think that if you only send it to him, then it can say anything you like. He is not going to turn himself in to the police, it isn't your intention that he does, and if he does then more fool him.

If you were going to publish them more widely, then you should only tell the truth. If someone did turn him in, then it could waste several hours of police time in both countries.

I don't think that the Gambian police can know about his 419 activities can they? How about saying that he is wanted for bribery of officials, (simple) fraud, customs irregularities and possible money laundering?

Yeah, look, upon more consideration, you're all right.

The only reason why I was so hesistant is because when I actually saw what Marv had created I put myself in his shoes. From what I can gather he did not leave Gambia voluntarily and if he believes the poster he may want to clear his name. But as you say, he's not going to... and if he does they'll simply tell him he's an idiot and send him on his way. I'm going to run with it as is and hopefully he'll buy it.

I can't see any breach of ITP is on the cards here Red.

There is no way in the World that he will voluntarily walk into any Police station, especially one in another African country.

What it might do though, is give him one helluva fright, and he might travel rough across country to avoid any Police that he thinks might be hunting him down... Very Happy

Who knows, he might even decide that its best to avoid official border crossings and be arrested for trying to sneak under the barbed wire fence.

The best thing this is going to do is possibly create paranoia. And that is a very good thing. But don't worry, he will NOT turn himself in.

As others have said, the chance of him turning himself is pretty much non-existent, so go for it. I think changing it to theft of the jewels is a better idea.

Even if he did turn himself in I don't think you're violating the ITP rule.

Involving outside parties is not a violation of the ITP - it's making those outside parties part of your bait in a role they are not aware of. That, especially, could be dangerous for them.

But sending your criminal to the police - and him KNOWING they are police - isn't going to hurt them or put them in any danger. The lad knows they are cops, the cops are being cops, and everyone is more or less who they say they are.

Go for it.

Note that the poster doesn't say he is wanted for 'murder', just in connction the deaths. In other words the police think he can in someway help with their enquiries.

I'd circulate it to everyone BUT your lad. For the first week that is. Maybe it will get back to him, maybe it won't in which case maybe it should be posted on another forum somewhere that you can point him to (of course no one here would dream of posting suitable replies...).

Callum's idea is excellent. I like the thought of your lad having nightmares about being wanted. Please advice him to wear sunglasses and a hat whenever he walks the streets, you do not want the police to mess up this important transaction of course Twisted Evil

I like Callums idea as well. It has a rather sadistic feel to it.

Tell your lad you need him to check in with you an a daily basis if you're going to be able to help him out of this predicament.

And make sure all the other lads know there is a reward out for him.
