Think I have my first WU office excursion underway. After 3 weeks of dilly dallying and very polite confusion he has the MCTN numbers in his hot little hand, well his 'Bank' does. Lets see what happens now.
Fingers crossed for some lad anguish.

The lads don't do Western Union excursions, they merely sit on their lazy arses and check the mtcn online or else ring up their clerk mate there. Unless you can create a modality that dictates that they need to show up at the WU office to confirm the payment, they won't move from the internet cafe.
If you think you've lost him, just rebait with a new addy and character. |

Yep. If you want to get your lad to go down to the office, don't give him an MTCN at all. If he has your details, valid ID in the name you sent it to, and the answer to the security question, that's all he needs in theory to get the money.
However, he may want to pick up at a different location which you need the MTCN for, so don't get your hopes up. Work him through V3rifys3c a few times, get him to call the Customer DisService number, and get throroughly annoyed with the incompetence of WU whilst all this is going on. You can then switch him to Money gram which can't be tracked online. |

^^^ That's true unless he's in Nigeria. In Nigeria he needs ID, the sender's name and city, the amount, the test answer and the MTCN.
Go to westernunion.com, select Nigeria as your location, click "Help", "How To" and "Pick Up A Money Transfer". At the bottom of the page it gives you special rules for that country. |

Sheesh. Shows I've not had a Nigerian lad in ages.
Anyway, it's probably best to play dumb on these things and get him to explain to you why he actually needs the number. I mean, of all the countries in the world to have special restrictions on receiving Western Union money why did they have to single out Nigeria. |
