Some Ebay item descriptions can be good for a laugh too. For example, some of the terms on the dvd listings include:
"Fan made" - copied from my old video/tape recordings,
"sourced from the public domain" - I downloaded it,
"video transfer" - I copied my video to dvd.

"Not an official release" is another good one too.

Modality, resp. the vernacular equivalent, is a perfectly normal word in Italian, French, German ...

I was just going to mention that, "modalit�" is a widely used and perfectly acceptable term.

False friends are pairs of words in two languages (or letters in two alphabets) that look and/or sound similar, but differ in meaning. Both false friends and false cognates can cause difficulty for students learning a foreign language, particularly one that is related to their native language, because the students are likely to misidentify the words due to language interference.
