Hi Guys, I wasn't aware there is this term called baiting until I was searching online today. I met this guy on a dating app and he courted me for 2 whole months daily. Calls to chat daily. Says he is an architect from UK. Perfect English, no seemingly-African accent then, photos from him of what he is doing daily. I fell really hard for him till recently I began to spot some fishy bits here and there. I am pretty sure he is a scammer and starting to ask me for money with his "attorney". (I don't know if I should detail too much here) When I realized this, cried for 3 weeks out. I had confronted him earlier on but he sweared he wasn't one. Good explanations for everything. Ok I was silly enough then to say even if he was a scammer I will take him back. I was really in love and can't bear to leave him. I played along but I did not know it is called baiting then. But now I am worried as I have given them some documents that might be traceable back to me eventually. And they are waiting for money which I didn't send. I have been delaying it as long as possible but today or tomorrow they might call again. Any kind soul please help me out?! What should I do now??? PM me please~

Hello,

- Ignore any message from him!
- Do not answer the phone!
- Do not talk to him anymore, by mail / chat / Facebook.

In a few words, act like you were on a long journey to Mars and you have no way to communicate with him.

I confronted him the first time and gave him a chance. He said he wasn't aware of the phony bits. I confronted him again 2 weeks later and there was silence.
I thought I could finally be free. Then he called me crying and my heart just couldn't bear to cut off. Now I think it's an African voice. He has my phone number, my email address and bank I used. I am afraid now too.

Maybe I can explain to someone more experienced in detail and see if I am right about this guy?

Believe me, as long as you communicate with him, he will be able to convince you.
That's his job, he does that to make money! You will lose your money and you will never recover anything!
The best and safest way to avoid financial loss is to ignore it and end any kind of communication with it!
If you want, put here all the necessary details (obviously, without your personal datas) and let other colleagues express their opinions.

But DO NOT send the money! You're not obliged to do it, no matter what he says!
It's your money and no one can force you to do something against your wish!

Have you contacted Scamwarners? Here at Eater we deal with baiting, whereas Scamwarners is suited to victims, as yourself appears to be.

Do NOT confront him again about being a scammer, this will only help him become better at his "job" for the next victim!

StayStrong, Birlic is right - what this man is doing is manipulative behaviour of the worst sort.

The truth is, it's better to have a wounded heart than a ruthless and cynical criminal taking your money and perhaps leading to worse manipulation - some romance scammers turn their victims into accomplices in money laundering.

What is certain is that he will keep taking money for as long as he can make you believe, and he will take every cent or penny and not care what happens to you.

I am so sorry to hear of the heartache you are suffering. Please tell yourself that you are lucky you have not yet lost any money trying to 'help' him. The only thing you would be helping is a criminal determined to part you from your hard earned cash in order to contribute to his ill-gotten gains and over-weaning life style.

He might sound sort of English. If you are an American lady, you might hear his accent as being vaguely from the UK, especially if he is an educated African man, or someone who has spent time in the UK.

Please take the advice given to contact our sister site 'Scamwarners', where there are people who can help and counsel in these circumstances. Please don't be like me and continue to be convinced that 'your guy' is on the level, until you have lost a small fortune. Good luck.

They are professional liars. They do this to many victims while they mercilessly suck out every dollar out of them.
