My first bait

This is my first bait attempt and its not very far advanced so I will document it here and update it as I go along. As this is my first bait please feel free to offer and comments.

Me: Mrs Sally McNee from Newcastle England, a childless widow with failing eyesight who does charity work for the her local church. Very pious and quite wealthy. She is on the church finance committee too. She employs a carer who might become involved later.

Sally responded to a scam from Sister Rose Harry, also a childless widow who is dying with cancer. Sister Rose was looking to enlist someone to spend her late husbands fund. There were a couple of emails which resulted in Sally sending her address (made uo) to Sister Rose. The following day Ally Bank from 1001 Pensilvania Avenue informed Sally that they held a fund on behalf of Sister Rose that they wanted to transfer to her. Please provide bank details. Sally provided details (made-up).

Currently Ally Bank have responded saying they need certain certificates and the fee is $980, they want to know how Sally is intending to pay.

I'll Probably respond to tomorrow.

Ask the bank to provide the account details into which you can pay the fee (shoudn't be to hard for a bank to do that). Hopefully if all goes well you will have collected your first little piggy.

I'm currently dealing with a "bank" that refuse to give out a bank account for me to pay into. Apparently they're too much hassle and a security problem!

I was going to offer to send them a cheque or bankers draft but thats a better idea.

Some of them give up accounts pretty easily. I told one lad that the account didn't work, give me another, and he did so promptly. Sucker!

Hope you get your piggie. It always amazes me how many "banks" out there who prefer payment via money transfer because bank to bank transfers are too much hassle.

Hard to give hard and fast rules but most lads won't supply bank accounts (even if they had them) for anything below $750 or so.

Another good bacon getter is to tell the lad that you checked with your bank and there's a minimum transfer amount of $1000 (or at least significantly higher than what he's asking for) and would that be okay because it's SO worth it?

Due to legal restraints, tax-exempt status, and accounting practices, my church is required to pay all amounts under $1500 out of petty cash, with a written receipt. Those same requirements mean payments over that amount must be made in a bank to bank transaction...like all other legitimate transactions.

The lad has replied with the details of cash mule (reported). I need to decide how to proceed.

2 say I've sent it and re-quote the reference he gave me incorrectly, Sally's eyesight is not what it was.

No hard and fast rules, you just have to judge whether this lad has a bank account to cough up or whether he isn't that advanced.

Personally speaking, if he is claiming to be a bank, make it pretty clear that you can't understand why you can't make a bank transfer and won't make it via money transfer. Even if he hasn't got an account himself the sums involved might prompt him to get one from his scamming buddies.

Tell him that legitimate business use bank transfers, they are safe, insured and other such things. He will cough one up (whether borrowed or not) and will insist upon seeing the transfer slip which you will conveniently forget to take with you or not remember seeing in the first place.

Oscapiles - that would be my tract too. When he asks about the payment slip it is also worth mentioning that you paid via internet banking (no physical payment slip) and even so you don't need a payment slip to pick up bank transfers.

If the lad provides a mule's address I pretend to snail mail the transfer slip to him "as per your instructions". Love the ballistic reactions to that one.

When it comes to payment slips, one Lad in particular wouldn't take no for an answer. The good thing is, most of the calls were on his dime.

I have now responded to the lad asking for account details so I can use the proper banking system. I have also sweetened the pot a little by telling him that my bank imposes and $1500 minimum on international transfers so would owe please donate any excess to his local church.
