I found my scammer. What to do with him.

Hi, I have just joined. Looking some advice. My mother has been messaging a scammer and has sent him all her own savings plus a huge chunk of my dad’s as well. He has broken her mind. We can’t get her to stop messaging him. She still sends him cash. I found the scammer through an amazing fluke. He is on Facebook, lives in Benin, Nigeria.
I have no hope of getting any money back as my mother will not file a complaint..
we have tried everything.
I would appreciate some advice.

Undoubtedly they will have numerous examples of the exact scam your mother has been exposed to. So sorry to hear about that.

There will be users there that can guide you as to how to deal with the victim etc.

I would note that most likely you did not find the scammer. Probably made up name, made up Facebook page (or coincidence or someone he is posing as).

Your mother can report it however very little can ever be done except to educate her ASAP so she doesn't continue to send money.

Thank you for your reply, but just to clarify I know exactly who her scammer is. I know who he is, where he lives, his address, phone number, email address, car registration, who his friends are, some of his family etc. I have infiltrated him on Facebook by using a fake profile. I am friending people I see on his profile. I want him to stop contacting my mother. I am hoping to infiltrate him on a personal basis to the point where he has to stop. I know there are experienced baiters on here. Trust me I would not target this lad if I thought for one moment I was wrong.

We encourage victims to stop all communications with their scammers. Typically, the scammers will quickly get the message and move on as they cannot afford to waste time on people they think won't pay. If they continue to email, phone, or send sms messages, close or change your accounts.

Then professional counseling is needed. Respectfully, amateur attempts at revenge will do nothing but prolong her and your healing.

Thank you. I would not ever want to risk my mother’s health.
We have tried to talk to her as a family, she has shut us out. Her friends have tried and got the same. Went to her doctor, they tried to get her counselling. Nothing came from that. We can’t protect her from herself. She is deemed mentally capable of making her own decisions. The local Police have tried but are powerless to act as she hasn’t put in a complaint that she is being scammed. We removed WiFi from the house and confiscated her smart phone. She just bought a new phone with lots of mobile data. It is going on for a year now. She is chatting with him today. She is chatting flat out with him. She has a suitcase permanently packed complete with soap bag, so she can go start her new life. Her behaviour is affecting my fathers health. I have tried everything I can think of. Thank you for being so respectful and understanding.

This is 100% true.

Even if you do have his full personal details, he isn't going to care and nothing you can do will make him stop. He's in a country where the police will often turn the other eye for the equivalent of a few dollars. He's probably supporting his family with the money he steals from your mother and they will all know how he gets the money. And, should he chose to, he could cause far more trouble for your family than you can for him.

I had a similar issue although not as close or severe. Lots of people turned a blind eye/deaf ear even though he was then acting as a mule for the scammers (actively) and taking a cut.

FINALLY got him squared away.

I will assume this was to reinforce seeking professional assistance (as previously mentioned) and not to advise on seeking revenge or baiting the lad, since we do not sanction that kind of recklessness (also previously mentioned).
