Need help proving a scammer

Hi guys,

I'm new here and apologize for not having the first clue on how scam baiting works.

My mother in law is currently being scammed and has currently sent the scammer more than $100k. She refuses to believe that he is anything other than the love of her life.

This has been tearing my wife's side of the family apart as her and her brothers and sisters cannot convince the mother in law that the person she is sending money to is a scammer.

It all sounds ridiculous, I don't know how it could come to this. I guess the mother in law has been through some rough times and become quite vulnerable as a result. Anyways circumstantial proof will no longer register with her and I feel that without concrete proof that there is no way to convince her otherwise.

This is where I landed on this forum while google searching. I thought if someone baited this guy and obtained proof that he was asking money from other people then it would be fairly conclusive. However, I wouldn't know where to start with this.

Information removed as it is indeed against the rules to post emails/names without evidence of a scam, but more importantly because this is a public forum and if the scammer did happen to search his gmail, this post would come up along with the mention of your mother-in-law.

Hi Bam, I'd suggest going to www.scamwarners.com to start with. They will have an example of whatever scam your MIL is involved with.

Plus the people there are better in dealing with victims, and in giving you advice.

BAM, welcome to eater. As you already guessed this is a scambaiting site. The best place for you to visit is our sister site scamwarners.com which is for victims. There you will see many examples of romance scams and also resources where you can get help and advice. Sadly, even if someone were to bait the scammer and send you copies of that chats, that wouldn't necessarily convince your mother in law, as the scammer would likely tell her that the chats come from a vindictive ex, someone with an axe to grind, or even blame you claiming you don't want to see her happy.

These types of messages are the reason I make time to do this when I have no time. 100k. So sad. Any progress we can all make in wasting time, closing accounts etc hopefully slows down these criminals.

Really really sad to hear about your mother-in-law.

Maybe it's helpful for her to watch some relevant youtube videos. There are plenty of in several languages. I remember I watched few years ago a tv program done in Switzerland (in italian language) about these love scams and scammers from Ivory Coast (so french speakers).
I remember an old professor being cheated once and then a second time after being advised.
Nice people tend to be nice and more often than not TOO NICE!

I'm sorry, anakbabi, but I removed your link because I don't speak Italian and therefore had no clue what the heck they were saying in advice to victims. (and being that BAM posted in fluent english, there's no indication they'd especially benefit from an Italian language video in any case). Especially given the sensitive nature of this one, let's allow BAM to follow the advice given and work with the fine folks at scamwarners.

Your request can be better addressed at scamwarners as said. But if you want to learn how to fight back against the scammers (safely) start by reading the aticky threads at the top of the forum. Or take a look atthe hall of fame for some great examples of what we do here.

I suggest sticking with ScamWarners at this point. Trying to learn to bait is not ideal while you are working on the emotional depths involved with a mother-in-law caught up in this. It will influence your decisions and slow the healing. Take care of your family first.
