I wonder if there's anywhere in the world you could actually "call back" a letter once you mail it? I've been baiting couple of fine fellows with my "Misunderstood Western Union, sent cash money in a letter" trick and the lads just insist I should ask for the letter to be returned.

There is no way unless you sent it with tracking. You could tell the lad that you have called it back and are having it returned and won't be able to send the funds until it is back in you possession and then have some fun with all the mishaps that happen.

I've actually caused some nice panics to the lads with my antics of mailing cash. I had one lad pose as a refugee in a Senegalese refugee camp. I managed to extract an address for the camp, then told them I had sent $1500 in cash to that address. Managed to keep them entertained for weeks waiting for their big pay day. Unfortunately the letter disappeared somewhere along the way Crying or Very sad

I would venture to guess in some developing nations where bribery rules and mail is slow, letters can be called back. Let the lads have their illusion. The clear lack of understanding of modern postal systems just might make a real victim wonder whats up.

^^^ It wouldn't surprise me if that is the case.

I've used similar tactics and each time the lad has been totally confused by the concept of sticking the letter in a post box to be collected. It's possible that where they are, you take the mail to some location and it is eventually collected from there by the mail service and if you can get there before it is collected you have a chance of retrieving it.

I've had what Man of Many Names describes happen to me a number of times over the years.

Many Lads seemed to think that posting a letter meant using a courier service, and would demand a tracking number.

I guess I hadn't thought of it that way. Never been to the Africa (although I'm otherwise rather well travelled) and everywhere else I would just use the nearest mailbox to send a letter.

The most surprising thing is how relentlessly they argue that it's just a matter of going to the post office and demand your letter back. Even when I've told them that this is not how things work in $COUNTRY, they've insisted trying and trying again. They don't usually take it for an answer that the mail system is more of a black hole, where the letters put in mailboxes go into sorting facilities and so forth, not to the nearest post office service point.

Out of curiosity, any details on your version? Wouldn't mind putting a new spin on the old trick Cool

Hearken to the second call in this thread: https://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1684643&highlight=#1684643. The Lad couldn't get the idea of Western Union out of his head.

Removed the full quote of the previous post. Just think of this as a conversation. bware419ers

This is pretty much the reaction I'm often getting. We go back and forth with "I sent it to you over the mail" and them wanting some WU code.

I usually send the wad of cash to the first address I find, usually it's the lawyer's official address or something. The cheekiest of lads suggested that I send another batch of money, but this time over WU.

^^^ Rather than send cash, I used to tell them that the guy at the WU had told me that it was much more secure to send a Money Order than do a transfer. So I would tell them that I had sent one to their character (not the mule name) at any address they had previously given. After the initial confusion of what the Money Order was, they would instruct me to get it back, I would then question them about how I was supposed to do that as it was in the post box.

Removed, also. -bw

That's devious, although I could see the lads sweating a lot more thinking about a letter full of money exchanging hands in their super-corrupted postal system. I was almost once tempted to have a letter sent to them, that had correct address and everything, except it was opened from the bottom, so they'd receive an empty letter they assume to be robbed by their local rivals. But then again, I have a policy of never spending a dime on them, just time.

^^^ To me, it would be worth the cost of a stamp.
However, highly likely the address, if real, is of an ITP. The lad would never receive it.

Of course, a baiter could say they mailed cash, and 7 - 10 days later ask the lad why he removed the money and had the empty envelope "returned to sender". Twisted Evil

^^Another thing a baiter could do is cut a slit on one edge of the envelope and tape it shut. Then insert a note that says something like, "Thanks for da money, mugu hahahahaha!"

^^^^ The taped envelope with a dollar chop thank-you note would drive most lads to rage. As much as some claim they're about "taking back what was stolen" by western cultures, the longest and most heart-warming tirades ever sent me were from 419 scammers outraged that my fake lad character "stole" his stolen loot. See my bottom sig line for an example.

You'd think they would at least be glad that someone managed to take some well-earned revenge.

If you happened to have a verifiable (ie for sure the lad and not an itp) name and address for two lads... You could take the dolla chop a step further. That might be worth a buck or two for postage lol.

^^ Some years back I did a bait where my hopeless main character mistook another scammer (really my other character) as the real lad. At some point after my real lad had raged on and on long enough about the money, I sent him a long (faked) conversation with my fake dolla choppa. It had a lot of quoted text, but the main idea was:

- My last post to real lad
- My fake lad replying to that, telling they're my real lad's associate
- Me going "this is perfectly fine", then following the instructions on how to send money over WU
- My fake lad confirming money received, but the princess is in another castle and another customs official needs bribery money

First of all, my lad fired me an email I believe he wrote with his fists banging the keyboard. Then he immediately changed his e-mail address, I assume he suspected his primary account was hacked. He then fired a really angry mail to my secondary character's e-mail with all-caps rant about how much I suck, but with nearly incomprehensive grammar. The outcome looked like English and some other language smashed in together.

^^ I've been thinking about something like that, but hadn't done it in the fear of one of the addresses belonging to some random mule and then the first guy decides to visit him with a gun.

Speaking of two lads, I had a somewhat fun and confusing case, where I broke two lads off their script, then started forwarding their mails to the other. I just broke all the phone numbers etc. direct ways they could contact. All the sudden there's two guys trying to get the other pay for the gold box's bribery/custom/storage fees.

^^ I've used that too in a dolla chop. Forging the mail and made it look like the lad's account is hacked. Then my fake lad sent the lad a mail with Emkei's Fake Mailer I used the lad's mail address as sender and receiver so if he replied at the mail he received his own reply.
He fell for the trick and became pretty paranoid Smile
