Peeps: A friend recommend this forum—I'm glad it exists.

This morning a stranger with a female-identified profile sent me a Facebook friend request. While that's not unusual (I'm so incredibly attractive to strange women on the Internet, apparently), this one sent a GMail address after I sent her a private 'have we met?' message, and her account hasn't yet mysteriously disappeared. It's the usual deal: no visible information, except that she's single... and I haven't accepted her friend request, of course.

I've had a good time hearing other scambaiting stories, but I honestly don't have time to create one myself. So if anybody wants to have a go, get in touch, I'll send the details, and will look forward to hearing what happens.

M - Welcome to eater. Glad you are enjoying the site. From the limited information you provided, it sounds like you may have run across a scammer profile, however without any evidence of scamming (ie the person trying to scam you, ask you for money, etc.) we do not encourage the posting of people's facebook profiles, etc. or the sharing of that information via the PM system. If this person does reply to your gmail with a scam email / story of missing funds, immediate statement of love, etc. feel free to post that email along with headers in this section (surplus letters). Meanwhile, I will move this post to our Main forum as the Surplus section is specifically for posting initial emails from scammers.

Thanks, Padme. I posted in the forum that said it was for posting about first scam emails, but I suppose it specifically meant SMTP emails, not social media messages. (I'm glad somebody still knows the difference!) Cheers!

I don't need any help; I was just posting where it said to post about scam emails... I thought somebody would enjoy discouraging a scammer. (She may not have asked me to send money or declared undying love, but I've been on the Internet for 25 years, which is long enough to know that when somebody I've never met sends an email address and 'i will like to know you more', it's a scam.) But I'll just ignore her message instead—no drama. Cheers.

MikZ, I believe what Fo'andles meant by "it's very limited for getting help here" is that not many people would be likely to see your message as the Surplus section is simply a place where people post initial emails sent by scammers. If you look in that forum you'll see there is no real discussion there. It's just a series of posts of emails from scammers. As to the person who emailed you, it sounds like a scammer, as I said in my initial reply. The reason for our rule about not posting profile links or emails without any "scamming evidence" is to prevent people from revenge-posting addresses of their exes, bosses, etc. I do not believe that is what you are doing. Your post was straightforward. But, the rule is in place because it has happened. Again, if she does end up replying and sending you an obviously scammy reply, feel free to post it in Surplus. Hope this helps.
