Well the last week and a half has been interesting to say the least. Hurricane Harvey caused us to evacuate and spend several days in a shelter. Life has been crazy for a while, had some personal problems and had to move suddenly a couple months ago. Lost internet access for a while. But I am back... Kind of. New job isn't going to leave a lot of time for baiting but I will pop in when I can. Just wanted to check in and see how the lad pain is going.

I hear they have a few hundred thousand wet cars ready to ship to California.
Pizza Hut was making deliveries with a Kayak, and I hear construction trades are ramping up.
CNN estimates ten years to restore Huston to it's former glory.
Damn sorry you got caught up in that mess.. Stay strong.

Thanks. I am among the fortunate. Lost a vehicle but the house is okay and we even have lights and water (can't drink it but at least the toilet flushes). There are hundreds of thousands in shelters far from home who have lost everything. Many are families with young kids facing a school year in a new town where they know no one... Have no school clothes or supplies... And live in a shelter. My heart breaks for them. I haven't yet seen a Harvey lad but I know they will be around shortly. Please help me target them for the special level of hell they deserve.

It's good to hear you are in one piece, BK. I saw some of the heartbreaking scenes on the news and they motivate me to watch for the inevitable Harvey emails.

I have friends who live on the Bolivar Peninsula (east of Galveston) who have been without power all week but are OK and did not have to endure the flooding.

It's heartbreaking. And how many people have not only lost their homes but their jobs - there must be so many small businesses that have been destroyed.

I promise I'll bait the daylight out of the first Harvey scammer to hit the Surplus Forum.

I've never suffered like you have but experienced smaller things. I had a car flooded out and thought that since it was still running and I pulled out the seats and sound insulation to dry that things would be OK. It really wasn't. After a few years there was rust everywhere and the electrical systems went nuts. It was a rear wheel drive and the differential was hot when it got submerged. It cooled down and then sucked water under negative pressure into the case through a pressure relieving vent hole. Too bad I did not notice that the water turned the lubricant into a chocolate colored mousse until the third member failed. I was lucky the wheels did not fall off because the bearings were completely shot.

We had a room flooded while we were in escrow in our last house. The sellers had not been in the house in 5 years and the solicitors paid to have the symptoms repaired and the carpet changed, but the primary cause was not addressed until it happened again on my watch. The plumbing failed less than 5 months later and the plumbing contractor hired by the insurance company walked out, leaving the leak running while I was back east.

I diamond saw cut and jack hammered the concrete in a suspended walkway to get to a leaking water pipe three months ago. I was able to resolder a connection with MAP gas. Propane gas would not do it. I could have been a lot worse.
