Dear All,

scambaiting is a universal fun and even though english is the most used language to communicate with Lads other languages are also used.

Shall we publish our work in languages other than english?

One of my character is communicating in Italian and the Lad is having a lot of fun with google translator...

That's why I'm asking this.

Yes! I've published a bait in Spanish (except one message which was in French), and I have a pet lad bait in Portuguese which is mostly ready to publish, but needs a Portuguese native speaker to check the translation. Much of the reason is the phrase "filhote de cachorro", which I rendered as "pup of puppy", which sounds strange in English, but I don't know if the Portuguese sounds strange too. I'm a native (or more precisely heritage) speaker of French and Spanish, so I picked up Portuguese within a week, but I don't have that good Sprachgefühl in Portuguese.

I think for my next Lad I will play the part of a priest who speaks only in Latin...
I guess it will be fun to communicate...

My Feathers character speaks in Latin but only when he is possessed otherwise he speaks a language all his own. It might be fun to have a character that only speaks pig latin

Mountain Goat and Robert Heinrich der 1 have done some brilliant baits (including phone calls) incorporating German. That's probably the best example of multi-lingual baiting I've seen here. I've done a few, very modest by comparison, baits in Arabic and Spanish.

As for posting them, one draw back, naturally, is that, as this is a primarily English speaking forum, you're likely to have less people who will understand and enjoy your bait if it isn't at least partially in English. Part of makes Mountain Goat and RH's baits so clever is that if you understand German, you get even more great nuggets from the bait (so my German speaking friends tell me) but if you don't, you can still enjoy and understand the bait perfectly fine.

I feel using a language the Lads don't know is giving the baiter a slight advantage.

I will see if my gut feeling is correct very soon

^ Can't hurt, and lots of potential for de-education. If you publish the bait, it might be fun if you included a bit of an English companion where you point out the mistakes the lad makes and also slang or other things you put in your correspondence that the lad doesn't pick up.

I do some facebook baiting of romance scammers, and the lads there will frequently find and re-use any sort of romantic stickers and pictures they can find. After a couple of us had received ones with Arabic writing that the lads clearly didn't understand (innocent things, such as the pictures said something like, God is great, and the lad said it meant I love you), I worked up this little gem...

It says "screw you" but I tell the lads it means "I love you". Hopefully they're re-using it.

One of my characters did not know English, so he wrote only in Romanian. The Lad was forced to use Google Translate. Laughing

Of course here, in the forum, I posted the English version as well.

I'm fluent in French, so I've baited in that before. It's fun to see the lad's responses because Google translate doesn't help at all with slang phrases.

I have done very bad things with what I tell the lads are verses in the Qur'an. Use your imagination... Too offensive to post here. Hopefully it will twig any Muslim victim lol.
