I was curious, so I did a bit of research.

Of Eater's 65,550 members, 3,048 (4.65%) have posted at least 25 times. The number might be slightly higher (I know at least one member, Reaper, has officially made 0 posts. Tsnerd has made 41. That's not true).

Take it for what you will, I guess. I just thought it was an interesting little tidbit of information.

Glad you posted that, I recently did a search for an old member I knew (now long gone) & was amazed by the amount of zero or less than 10 posts made by people who signed on here over the years. Quite frankly Admin could weed out thousands of these 'long gone no shows' to free up some space.

^While that is certainly true, it'd be quite unlikely for a person to stick around for more than a few days without posting at least 25 times. 25 is an arbitrary amount - maybe 10 or 25 or 50 would work better - but it seems to me that thw majority of people don't stick around for very long.

Why? I don't know. Probably a lot of different reasons.

As you can probably see from my post count & sign-up date I did an awful lot of lurking around here- and originally signed up to get a look at some of the walled off content Razz

Now I have time/interest to do more than the solitary bait per year so why not be a bit louder than silent?

I'd imagine that I'm not unique and that the sign-in forums generate quite a few silent (but not necessarily dormant) users.

I'd say in many cases, it's because they love the idea of baiting, but then discover that it can be harder than it seems, and if you want to do it well, there is a huge amount of reading & research that needs to be done. People are lazy.

I consider myself a daily addict in this forum

but I realize most of my "posting" activity is with my lads, not necessarily on Eater. I post quite a lot when I update my bait threads, and on occasion welcome a new member, but I don't even consider myself one of the more active baiters out here. I think there are a lot of us who are still actively baiting & checking in from time to time to be sure we're sticking to the rules, or to grab some wisdom from the university, but not feeling the need to chat.

I did hear a rumor some time back than when one got their 200th piggy, the postcount automatically went back to zero, but that could have been someone totally posting BS in order to freak people out. Wink

@Starbuck5: There are plenty of big time Eaters here who would surely have accumulated hundreds if not thousands of pink and black piggies and site kills (not to mention safaris galore, lad tattoos and whatever else) that don't use sig icons. For others, a lone piggy in the sig line represents a lot more than just a single bank account. Basically, a lack of icons does not necessarily mean a lack of success.
