I have an Outlook baiting account I’ve used for several years. I can’t recall ever getting any mail in my Junk folder, certainly not in the past year.

This morning I noticed that it now said Junk Email (145). I had 145 mail delivery system failure emails (all dated Sunday) saying my message could not be delivered. The first one listed 41 recipients that failed. The reasons varied – host name not found, unknown or illegal alias, does not exist, blocked for abuse and so on.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?! Should I be worried?

If anyone who is savy about this type of thing needs to see an example, I can PM you the first email. It’s too long to post here and also contains a lot of email addresses.

Did a lad use my account to send out spam? Do I need to scrap this account? Sad

It sounds like you've been joe-jobbed, not hacked.

Someone sent out spam email with your address on the reply-to line. It happened to me once; I think that other baiters have been targeted too.

Someone is spoofing your addy. There are ways to do that.
I have a fake lad account that I set up to mess with a lad that Thedevguy67 was baiting. It literally has thousands of bounced responses.

I agree, it's likely your address was put in the Reply-To field for a scam or spam mail blast rather than the account itself being compromised. The good news is the bounce messages are already being correctly directed to your spam folder, and it may subside soon as well.
When it happened to me it was over in a couple of days.

Thanks – this makes sense to me. So should I scrap the account or just delete the junk emails and continue on?

This happens to me all the time with the email accounts I use for insulting the lads. Invariably one or two get so mad they end up putting my email in the 'from' field so I end up getting thousands of bounces/undeliverables. It's a little frustrating but the lads usually move on to someone else in a few days.

One way to get back at him is to post his format here in Surplus and over at Scamwarners.

I once found out that my catcher had been joe-jobbed, and I posted the formats in Surplus and on SW. Unfortunately, someone else had posted a format on SW with my catcher's address (instead of the Reply-to address) in the subject line, and I had to ask him to redact it, since finding the same message in Surplus posted by me, and on SW with my catcher in From, would expose my catcher as my catcher.

The spam will eventually dwindle down to almost nothing – takes around 6 to 8 weeks though

As long as your current baits are in your contacts list, no need to bail out

You might want to give your lads a new email for contact while you wait – explain that you think your account has been hacked – always helps to spread panic ……

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Getting joe-jobbed just means you succeeded in pissing off a lad enough that he felt he needed to flood you with spam. Twisted Evil

I would not let any scammer think that he got to me. The only way that I would tell a criminal that my box was compromised would be as a harker that was in the box that wanted to work with the scammer.

I would tell him that it was a national holiday here in America but only as a reason that all Western Union offices are closed today.

BigX is correct in reporting that getting joe-jobbed represents an attatboy or attagirl from a scammer and shows how much love they have for you. If you can check out the headers on some of the emails you may see that the sent from address differs from your reply to address.

I had one of my catcher accounts get hit with hundreds of bouncebacks an hour. I used filtering phrases such as "Mail delivery failed", "550", "user unknown" and "mailbox full" and still use the box.

I started a mass bait on the one who jj'd me and a couple of his bank accounts were reported thereby, so in the end he was the loser.

Since the initial batch of 145 rejected emails all had addresses beginning with a, I was afraid that I would be getting groups of rejection notices every night till reaching the end of the alphabet. However, last night there was nothing new in my junk folder.

I think I dodged a bullet on this one. Cool
