Straight baiting to find the right lad

I haven't seen this addressed here, but it seems like a good idea, and I have done it to some extent (though I haven't baited long enough or dealt with enough lads to really get results from it).

Straight baiting enables us to learn about particular lads in a way that ASEMs or scripted replies might not, because we get to see how quickly and how much the lad becomes invested. While a lad may reject an ASEM asking him to join a church or put a fish on his head, that same lad would quite possibly be willing to do those sorts of things if you were to proceed a bit more slowly.

So, straight bait, and if you think the lad is a promising mugu, send him a second email from a new account and go from there. It may be more difficult to turn the straight bait into something different once it has been going on for a while, but depending on the situation, it could be a possibility (and safaris and that sort of thing can come from straight baits too, but again, this may be tougher once you have boxed yourself in with details about your baiting character).

Mine is a 100% straight bait and to be honest, that is all I know how to do at the moment. Turned out well.

That said, I've done 20+ baits at the same time that have really gone nowhere. Amusing, but really didn't last long.

All of my baits start as straight baits, then I start adding weirder elements if I think the lad will go for it. I don't think it is necessarily harder to turn a straight bait into something wacky, you just have to play it right and know when the lad will be willing to go along with you and when to back off.

Actually, I think running a straight bait for a while would make it easier for you to introduce crazier modalities, because once you've had him on the hook for a while, the lad is already invested in you and convinced that you're a paying victim, and therefore he is more likely to be comfortable with whatever you ask of him.

I have never had luck with 'modality specific' asems. I straight bait with a character that would fit a modality I want to try. What I used to do when I actually had time for this is ... Get three or four going at once. Within a week (i only do one mail per day) I can usually tell which one has potential. The others I either straight bait until they get bored or tell them the fbi told me they are a scammer. Conveniently I have an fbi character gmail that i provide lol. From that (a) you will get recovery scam scripts and can begin anew (b) can play lad from the fbi addy which is what they will already assume you are. I suck at playing lad but if you can pull it off there is much fun to be had. (C) if you pick him back up later on a recovery script you have set the hook for dolla chopping fun.

I agree with this - if you introduce "crazy" too soon , the lad is going to see you as a waste of time and drop you. Once he is invested in the character then he has more reason to comply with the crazy requests.

Most of my baits start with simple straight baiting for piggies, and the lads who still stick around after 2 months and 5 pigs, those are the ones who are good for the crazy stuff. Like Lake D' Amour said, it is maybe one lad out of 20 who will stay for the more hilarious baits.

I'd wager that if your straight bait is limiting the possibility for later shenanigans, there is something about your character that is creating the wall more than anything else. A straight bait done well, for long enough, would give you the false rapport to move toward suggesting something a little weirder later on (or referencing the lad to a second character for that purpose).

The character I'm using right now has a job title that allows for a lot of flexibility by its definition. Being in control of a company's investments division, I supposedly 1) do a LOT of travelling :which allows me to stall for a couple days at a time if necessary: ; 2) know a wide variety of people that have various assets at the ready; and 3) have direct access to a large sum of usable money, if only I had a good enough reason to spend it...

Don't "define your character" so much as "create reasons for what you do".

Well said and great advice. I am straight baiting an illuminate lad right now. Decided my character is barely literate. Have dropped hints about being mentally challenged. Don't know if I will decide to have Aunt Sally who manages my money join the bait or not... but if I do the groundwork is there.

For me the straight bait allows me to perform the needed is-he-enough-of-an-idiot test. If he passes then the games begin.

I will, sometimes, harvest a number of scammer addresses from the surplus forum (or any other source) and e-mail a very short response "I am interested in your proposal - please tell me more."

I will e-mail that response to my own baiting address then bcc a number of scammer addresses.

Each round of responses gets a generic reply from me - usually with a simple generic follow up question. "Can you send me documentation to review?" or "What are the tax consequences? Will I have to pay taxes in your country?"

After several rounds of generic responses, typically I can identify one or a small number of the scammers who seem to be particularly stupid/gullible/cooperative etc. I then proceed to get those individuals the personalized attention they deserve.

I can write the way a lad would write to a victim, but not necessarily the way a lad would write to another lad.
