Lad is having technical issues

I have been baiting a lad and his "bank" (posing as Lloyds Bank UK), and his bank emails have been from a fake bank domain, which I finally got shut down yesterday. I thought I would share his most recent communications, which reflect a bit of the pain that losing his fake bank domain has caused (which I hope is a LOT).

From the lad who wants to donate millions of dollars to me out of the goodness of his heart:

Any ideas as to why he can still SEND emails from his domain (which I confirmed is shutdown and on hold)?

Ohh the pain is real ....I have DR Barry from Llyods pleading with me not to be confused and telling me that the server issue should not stop me trusting him Smile

Receiving an email at a domain requires that the domain have a mailserver (an MX record, or an A or AAAA record pointing to something with port 25 open) which accepts mail for the domain. Sending an email requires that some mailserver accept outgoing mail from whatever IP address he's sitting at. They can be completely different mailservers.

I knew a man who had an Earthlink connection, presumably on dialup before I met him, then switched to a RoadRunner cable connection while maintaining the Earthlink address. His outgoing mailserver was RoadRunner; his incoming mailserver was Earthlink. If Earthlink had gone down, he could still send email with an Earthlink return address, but could never fetch mail that was sent to his Earthlink address.

This is why, if you have an email-only domain and the headers show that the lad is using some mailserver to send (e.g. it's a Gmail account but he's sending through mail.com), you need to send the lad an email at the fake domain, get a response, and post both in Fake Banks with headers.

^^I knew you would be able to explain it, VP. You are our technical guru! I do understand about the incoming and outgoing mails servers. Sending an email to the fake domain does bounce back as undeliverable (since I got the domain shut down and placed on hold). I'll look at the headers to see if I can learn more about his outgoing mail server. Thanks!
