Hi, I'm AngryPanda, but I am not Angry nor a Panda for that matter. But as someone once said; 'Who Cares?"

I found this site about 2 weeks ago, finally signed up this week. I am just enjoying reading the stories. I can't believe some of the lads are 'that' stupid to believe some of the drivel that is sent their way.

I've not done any baiting yet, but I have toyed with the 'Windows Help Desk' calls a bit. Can't help it as they are talking to a REAL IT person. LOL

Anyway, glad to be here. Looking forward to more stories and sometime in the future adding my own baiting stories.

Hi AngryPannda and welcome to Eater-don't worry about your screen name, although I am a gangster with a Thompson.

One thing about messing with telephone scammers-they have real life info have about you, including your phone number and name. It isn't safe . We advocate for safe baiting here-and this applies to phone scammers as well.

Read our stickies and if you'd like to join in, make up a character with a shiny, new email account. Grab a lad from Surplus and have at it!

Thanks for the welcome. As for safe phone baiting, I totally agree with you. My extent has been more along the lines, "I have 7 Computers, which one has the issue?" Or "all my computers are iPhones and iPads." We never get to having remote access or me giving any more information, which is a big no no in my book anyway.

So I have been setting up some email accounts to be used for baiting as suggested in the forums here. But I am not quite ready to start baiting, need to read some more. Also want to develop my characters a bit.

How do you hide the information when they are calling your phone number?

I understand what your saying. I guess I should clarify, I don't give out personal information, I don't give them access to computers, I don't give out banking information. I stop them way before it gets that far.

Please I was not trying to create a debate out of this. I just wanted to say Hi, New Member here!

There's no debate. If they are calling your real life phone number, it's simply not safe. Way too often, I have to post these:

Scammers could do that regardless of what you do.

BUT I understand what your saying. "Don't poke the sleeping bear!" No worries, I'll just hang up on them from now on. They can go bother someone else.

Humm, I better tell my family and friends as well. Don't what them getting swatted.

OK, I know this matter has been settled, but I just have to bite this one. All in good spirit though, so please don't be offended.

There is absolutely no way for scammers to find you if you play your cards right. And as we have been doing this stuff for over a decade now, we have a good idea of how to play the cards right. In fact, it's in our basic rules to do so and that is why you have received the kind of response you have above. No one is trying to create a debate here. The scammers are not super human beings. In fact, many of them are quite clueless as far as computers go. "Clueless" as in they know how to use them like you and I do and some of them know tools like Photoshop and similar applications quite well, but don't expect them to be expert hackers. Even such thing as an IP address may be new to them, or then they simply do not care about such things. It is a common misconception that the 419 is a high technology crime and that the criminals behind it are likewise very tech-savvy. 419 is a social crime: it's based on building trust and manipulating the victims' feelings and desires. And that's what our scammers are pros at: they are proficient in a certain kind of psychology. The fact that they happen to do it in the internet instead of (only) on the streets and face to face is there simply because it's more efficient and they can reach more people that way. But the core of the crime and therefore their skills lies elsewhere.
