Have any of you thought you where baiting a scammer and was really talking to another 419eater?

and if so for how long? and how long did it go on for before you found out?

I've had other baiters email me at my character email thinking I am a lad before. It was usually quick that we found each other out and had a laugh.

A few years ago I had an Aussie baiter (no longer on here methinks) on the hook for a week before it was resolved as 'friendly fire' Wink

Sometimes, insult baiters may inadvertently exchange "friendly fire" - the result of this is usually that both baiters improve their vocabularies before working out that they have been exchanging insults with another baiter. Very Happy

However, in a straight bait, the scammer can usually be easily indentified as the one asking for money.

If you are exchanging emails with someone you suspect may be a fellow baiter, try putting clues such as XDIX (Roman numerals for 419) and the word "Eater" in your communications.

^^ I think you mean CDXIX..... although probably a roman number code is already a good sign that a baiter is involved and testing the waters.

It's pretty rare that baiters will cross wires and communicate with each other -- and a high %% of times this happens it's because one of them has not been careful about verifying that indeed it is a scam email they are responding to. For example, writing to scammers whose email addresses are automatically published on online lists: all sorts of non-scammers can appear on these lists for various reasons.

There are some exceptional cases where two baiters can cross wires even proceeding carefully, but for the most part they can be identified as baiters once you know some of the typical signs. Ted's point about money is a good one, but it may not be immediately evident.

i can see it happening to a few people i was just wondering if it ever happened, i have been setting up a few hooks for a few of these lads, but they seem not to be biting at the minute, im getting board, i was hoping for some action.

Or create a so called "catcher account" for receiving only and seed it on www.muguguestbook.com (reply from a different email address, so the lad can't trace you to the guestbook)
