So, in the past, I've just asked scammers lots of stupid questions in hopes of wasting their time until I found this site. I rarely got much past two or three emails before, but at least it was a start. I had a surgery a week ago and figured doing a bait or two would be a good way to spend my time while recuperating. (By the way, if you'd like to help me with my $800 (EIGHT HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ONLY) co-pay, you can send it by WESTERN UNION or MONEYGRAM) Laughing

So, after signing up, I was assigned Metamit as an awesome mentor. I got my two email accounts set up, and started trolling.

Anyway, so far I've gotten two piggies and my character hasn't replied in a day, and, in his latest email, he was preparing to head out cross country on horseback in a snowstorm, in an effort to find a good satellite internet connection to make a bank transfer.

Come ride along with us. This may or may not be a good bait, but it's a start. I'll post chunks of exchanges until I get it up to date.

The Cast:

My character: Hew Jerry Olas (I use a different spelling, but it's phonetically the same.) He's a sheep rancher in the mountains outside of a small town in Montana. This is an actual place I'm familiar with, and the town has no bank, and, more importantly, is over 80 miles from a Western Union or MoneyGram office. He's inherited the ranch and a small mine from his father, is lonely, and is *only* worth about $2.5 million.

Rita (not the name "she" is using) : Scammer

Her scam starts as a romance scam, soon changes to an inheritance scam, then Hew changes it to a "romance with benefits" situation.

Hew just wants a friend.) , i am here in Dakar not because i wanted to, i am here because i found myself in this situation due to death of my family in the Sudan civil war and as a result, i am the only surviving member of my family, but that's not my problem now because i have handed everything to God in prayer,he knows everything and he knows why it had to be like that.

My biggest problem is that i am incapacitated here. I live in a church that provides shelter and a little more to refugees,and when i say a little more, imean it, like one meal per day and no basic medical amenities.

And having arrived here straight from escaping the war, I have no papers or money with me that can help me in the present situation because i was helped like many others by the Red-Cross organization, if not for a few clothes and one important file that they were able to get from my house for me, (Wow, how lucky was that?) I came with nothing more, so what this means is that right here right now, my life is stagnant.

I used to be a medical student and i was almost at the end of my first year when all these happened, I hope to go back to school one day, I hope to achieve a lot in life, i hope to get married and have 3 kids (two boys and a girl), these are some of my dreams in life, but they are dying here.

I have thought about it over and over again and i came to realize that there is no other way other than love, it is only a sincere love that can set me free from this bondage, (oh, THAT kind of love.) i do not really know you but i hope that we can start from here as friends or lovers, we can get to know each other better and if possible, it will be best if we are able to meet and stay together as soon as possible, I am open to come and be with you.

I believe in destiny and since i prayed before contacting you, I believe that we can be a huge success.

I'll update a little later. Some RL stuff to take care of. Fortunately, the last communication to Rita was dictated from Hew to his cook, who isn't very computer literate, informing her that you the ranch hands found Hew pretty beat up from a horse accident and they were doctoring Hew with Veterinary supplies they usually use on the sheep. Frank, the head wrangler, and resident amateur Veterinarian had given Hew some horse tranquilizer.

Rita sent a lovely message that she had asked Hew not to go. (I don't quite remember it like that.)

I tried to send a reply yesterday, and apparently my satellite connection was poor, as only part of my reply was sent to you. (It was gibberish, with only the questions she had typed being visible) I am hoping that the connection is better today, but it is still raining, so I am just hoping for the best.

Instead of typing my entire reply again, I will just tell you some of my concerns.

I am worried about you. Have you told anyone else about your inheritance? Does the Reverend know? I ask you this because, although I believe our love is genuine, you've only known me for a little less than a week. I am honored that you trust me with this information, but what if I wasn't a man with honorable intentions? I know there are bad people on the internet, and I hope you haven't shared your information with someone who is a thief or a scammer. You are very beautiful and I can see how any man would be interested in you, but there are many more that could be interested in stealing your money.

I'm sure you know your 13 million is a lot of money. I, myself, am only worth a little over two million dollars, and I live very comfortably. My dearest Rita, I am kind of surprised that you had to ask me those questions. I would think that you would know all the answers to them.

I am so excited to read your mails this afternoon. Thank you so much for the sincerity that i could feel through reading your mail,there is nothing in this world like transparency,and with your words,you have built and unshakable trust within me for you.
I know that i was naive initially,but i also wanted you to know everything about me as quickly as possible so that we can decide on how to get along. Thank you so much for your understanding,i do feel within me a certain sense of joy knowing that i have met someone like you.
Please do not talk about age,because age is just a number,what we feel as humans is far better than any discrimination be it age,race,religion etc,and it is worth it if what we feel is love.

What can I do for you to get you here? I don't want you to have to stay in that place any longer. Can the Reverend be trusted? I certainly hope he is honest and doesn't try to take advantage of you. Do you think he could possibly be in love with you, which is why he lets you use the computer and phone? Or, could he be after your rightful inheritance? I would rather lose your money than have another man fall in love with you. As I said, I don't have nearly as much money as you do, but I live comfortably.

My darling,good afternoon.I am so happy to hear from you again today. I think that we just have to admit,we do feel happy hearing from each other,i know that it is mutual,we do think about each other. It makes me happy always when i remember you.
I don't know what your religious affiliations are,i am a christian,so when i see someone that serves God wholeheartedly,i know,and the reverend is someone like that. He is to be trusted entirely. I am not privileged to use the computer and phone,others use it too,although i can use it more being that one of my duties with 3 other girls is to clean the office. He is not in love with me,and i believe that such a thing cannot cross his mind.
My darling,I thought about your suggestion and sincerely believe that it makes real sense,afterall two heads they say are better than one,so if i am there with you,we could achieve so much together.
I am not under any restriction to travel out if i am able to complete all the traveling procedures which includes having a valid international passport,getting a medical clearance,doing my refugee clearance and applying for visa.
Since i am not in my own country,the only place that i can get my international passport is from the embassy of my country,and it costs 177,500 CFA which is the local currency here. If converted to the US dollars would be around $310 thereabout.
My medical and refugee clearance,especially the refugee clearance is the one that is costly at $670 + $100 for medical.
If i have done these three,i can then apply for visa and go for an interview at the US embassy.
This is what i need to kick-start the procedure,that is a total of $1080,if you can provide me with this amount,i will apply for my passport by tomorrow because it takes 3 working days to come out. Within those 3 days,i will go for all recommended medical tests and after the passport is out,i will do the refugee clearance so that by Monday next week,i will apply for visa.

I am so happy that you know about how visas, passports, and all that stuff works, because I don't have knowledge about that sort of stuff. Am I correct that $1080 is all you need to get all the papers you need to be able to travel out of your country? Do you receive any money at all for your work? I have to admit, I still don't know if I trust him completely. I believe that, being a man of God, he will not steal your money, but I think he may have feelings for you. Is he married? You asked my religion, and, I am also a Christian.

The reason I asked about your transportation is that I'm wondering if I shouldn't send a little more so you can get around and also have some extra money to buy food and every day supplies. I don't know the cost of such things in Dakar, but would an extra $400 be enough so you don't have to depend on others? Maybe I'll just send $1500 total to be safe.

We will also have to find a way to get the money to you, as I am over 100 miles from a Western Union office. (That's about 160km) I also can't leave the ranch for at least two weeks, because my sheep are having lambs this time of year. (Lambing in the fall is SUCH a good idea in Montana Laughing

I also had another idea that crossed my mind. I know we have only known each other a little while, but, I was wondering if it would make it easier to get your inheritance funds if we were to be wed. What do you think about that? Although it would initially be a marriage of convenience at first, I dare say that it would blossom into a marriage of love. What do you think? Would you be my bride?

I am also happy to hear from you again. Thank you for the mail that you sent to me,every word in your mail is so valuable to me and it makes me happy. I think that i did not explain so well to you,and that may be why you made some mistakes which i have to correct.
First of all,i don't travel round the city at this time because it is necessary,all information that i got was from inquiries i made from more experienced people around here.
Secondly,the reverend is not married as he is a catholic reverend,he follows his oath of celibacy,so please do not worry about him,he will never ask for such a thing from any girl around here,and definitely not at his 71 years of age.
I did not remember about the cost of transportation which would have been necessary,but i thought about food,and decided that i may be asking for too much because i have been surviving before now with the one meal per day that we are given everyday. But you have a good heart to think about all these too,and i really appreciate the amount that you want to send because it will be enough,very enough for me,thank you.
I will marry for love,and there is nothing preventing me from loving you ,so please do not call it a marriage of convenience,it sounds like business. Dear Rita, My Beautiful Bride to Be,

I am so sorry that I was unable to write you yesterday. We had a portion of our fence fall down and about 80 of my sheep got out. I spent most of yesterday on horseback riding to try to get them all in. I had a ranch hand with me and my sheep dog, but it still took us until sundown to get them back in. I was exhausted when we got back.

Do you like horses? I have 5 nice geldings, one stud, and 3 good mares, one of which has a nice looking colt you will love when you see him. Maybe I will have you name him when you get here. There are two of the geldings and one of the mares that are very well broke that you will look lovely riding!

I didn't have the energy to mend the fence, so I just put them in a pen behind the barn. It has a good fence, but there's no grass there, so we had to feed them some of the hay we have stored for the winter. We have plenty hay, but it just takes a lot of time to complete the feeding. It is 8:30pm as I write to you, my love, but I finally got the fence mended and was able to let the sheep back into the pasture.

When the snow comes, I will use my new tractor I just purchased to pull the hay feeder, which will make feeding the sheep much easier, but it isn't arriving until next Tuesday. It cost me $117,000, but will be so much nicer than the one it is replacing (it was two years old). Hopefully, it will be on time, because the snow is supposed to start sometime next week. I can't believe it is almost winter! (I know it's actually Fall, but snow comes early here in the Lima Peaks.) The new tractor is also how we get to town when the snow gets really deep

Now, I was a little confused about the visas and passports and all that stuff, but it sounds like you know what you're doing. The one thing i was confused about was how you get around the city. Do you take a bus or use a taxi? I would much prefer you use a taxi or private car, for your safety. I just worry about you, darling. Are you sure the $1500 will be enough to get you by while you get your papers together?

After that, is an airplane ticket all that will stand between you and me? Will you fly out from Dakar? The closest airport to here is in Butte, Montana. Should I look at airfares? How would you like to handle that? Would you find the correct flights and then have me purchase the tickets, or can you get a better deal there if you have the cash?

We HAVE to figure a way to get the $1500 to you first so you can get your papers started. However, there must be a way to get it to you sooner than two weeks. I'm afraid I can't travel from the ranch before then, because the gentleman that I hired to be the manager of the ranch last month is attending to his Mother's estate because she passed away.

I did have an idea, however, but, you first have to tell me you trust the Reverend completely, and know he won't steal from you. I know you've told me he is trustworthy, and I believe you, I just don't know how he hasn't fallen in love with you.

That is how I purchased my tractor, and I didn't even have to leave the ranch to do it. That, my darling, is why I asked some of my questions.

I was also shocked that you questioned my desire to send more than $1500 so you can have transportation, food, clothes or any other items you need, along with the cost of air fare. Don't you realize that if I must travel the 150km over bad roads, that it will take me a day or more to make the trip if you need more money? Doesn't it make more sense for me to send all the money you may need in one transaction? My Darling, please know that I want what's best for you?

I also hear that people travelling to other countries for the first time are required to have a cash of $1000 - $2000 as basic travelling allowance (BTA) in case they are disappointed in the country they are visiting.
