I always assume a lad has been baited before or knows that baiters exist. But I honestly don't see any particularly suspicious behavior here.

Any tips for assuring him the validity of my business? I'm thinking my company isn't strictly registered with the authorities due to its dubious moral standing, sourcing exotic animals et al

For the government identity card, your government doesn't provide one and it is illegal to make copies of your driver's license, passport, etc.

Foe authenticating your business, you could put out a call to other baiters to act as satisfied customers and possible scam victims.
