I received a voice mail message today from someone with a thick accent, claiming to be the IRS. When I returned the call, they asked me for my SSN. Smelling a scam, I refused. The scammer promptly hung up on me. I then googled the number and learned that this was, as I had expected, a scammer. This number was the perpetrator of both IRS and Social Security scams. I called them back, ready to scam the scammer, but they got on to me quick and hung up. I guess now my number is flagged, they don't even answer.
My question is simple : Shouldn't it be easy to put this number out of business ? Who would I call to report this ? If there are several complaints posted about this number on the 'net, they've obviously been active for a while. I realize that all they need to do is get another number to be back in business again, but I'd still like to aggravate them.
Any ideas ? |

The people are criminals. Calling them back from your RL phone number is a really bad idea.
As for why they are still active. I have no idea. |

It is far better thathan they operate from a number that is listed online than from some unknown number.
You won't put them out of business by reporting their number, just make it harder for future victims to find them.
As for using your own phone number, as BBB said, that's definitely not a good idea. |

I have removed the phone number from your thread title.

| Do not post email addresses, profile links, or phone numbers without sourcing them to a scam mail, fake site, or other verifiable evidence of scamming. The potential for abuse of non-scammers is too great. We're not saying that you would point other baiters towards an ex-significant whatever, cheating spouse, or that neighbor who never returned your power tools. We are saying that in the past, others have. Moderators reserve the right to remove un-sourced phone numbers, links, or email addresses, or just delete that particular post entirely (they're like your credit card company, lots of reserved rights). |
This is not baitable (as we consider it) and involves your RL details. |

bware419ers - Sorry, I've actually read the rules (appearances to the contrary). Thanks for just removing the # instead of the whole post.
BigBeautifulBaiter, B8er - I know your right.
Juan Freizwidatt - Thanks, that was a scary news story.
I've been baiting for about a year but I've just now joined this site. Before I got here I didn't realize certain things, one being how serious some of these people can get. I hate to admit it, but a lot of what I've learned here is simple, common sense. It's kind of humiliating, but that's OK.
Thanks to all. |
