Greetings! I am new to scam baiting and wanted to try it out. Also, I am a big fan of my little pony as you probably may have figured out via my username. I wish to both scambait and get the spammers/scammers shut down. I know that when someone scambaits, they can't choose who contacts them, but I wish to go after the ones who claim to have thousands of credit and debit cards because I believe that those people are the most dangerous. I knew someone (can't remember his name) who tricked a scammer into giving him a free cc number to make sure the "lad" wasn't trying to give him fake information. Once he got the info, he contacted the bank who had the card canceled, or at least claimed they did.

It looks like you have set yourself some goals already and there is nothing wrong with that Wink

The fun part of scambaiting is that you CAN choose who contacts you. Well not exactly, you contact them while it looks like they have contacted you. There are a lot of lads with creditcard scams so I'm sure you will easily find what you're looking for.
But at first you need to be sure you bait safe. Never use any RL information. I recommend you to read the stickies first and sign up for a mentor.

As for not using my RL information, I don't think that will be a problem since I am somewhat paranoid that I might be a target for bad people and I don't want that. Also, where are the stickies?

Welcome! I was a newbie to baiting like you just one month ago. I recommend grabbing yourselves a mentor and if you have time go through the scambaits in Eater's Greatest Hits. They are good for a laugh.

Again thank you for everyone who responded. For me, I could waste the spammers time, but all this stuff about being able to make fake ids and documents, I don't think I could do that because even though I am "creative"I would prefer not to go through all the time making banners and other stuff.

I will admit however, that the people (scambaiters) who are able to do that stuff make some pretty convincing documents. I just think that's not really for me. I'm more of the "wasting time by either talking nonsense or making up all these stories about stuff." Very Happy

Along with wasting their time, another way to hurt them is to collect bank accounts from them and then report them to our mods to be shut down.

To add to your confusion, not only have the one's alreadybeen mentioned, but also look in the Eater Uni, bottom of Index page, also check out Scam Warners, (Long box just above) for indexed scams you can take on.

You mentioned scammers have some good documents, well if you check out scambaitingtools.com you can see what members have come up with, firehouse5 is collecting together what members have found from the internet.

That's fine. We're not actually supposed to make fake IDs.

You should read up on product lads. They scam businesses by pretending to purchase goods with stolen cc numbers. Not only would you waste the lads time but you will help someone out by reporting the cc numbers.

That sounds like something I could do. However, I would feel that I would need a fake store with fake items and I am not really sure how to get those. I could try to convince them that I have the items hidden due to "security reasons" but I don't think that would work, but again, I've never done it.

All you need is a list of (preferably fictitious) items and prices and some idea (which you can keep secret) how much each weighs and how big it is. You don't need to set up a webpage for your fake store. Some product lad baiters have just one item (possibly in different sizes); I have a two-page list. If you'd like help making up your list, ask any of us product lad baiters.

There's a product lad bait going on now in HH&T. The lad is the same one we baited back in May; he has no recollection of being baited.

I still think it's a good idea to have a mentor as well - they can advise you very specifically on developing your baiting skills as a whole, beyond one particular bait or method.
