I've been sending an especially stupid lad back and forth to Moneygram for a week now. I prefer MG because he can't simply track it online. This way he has to get off his ass and go to the shop before being dissapointed.

After his fourth trip I receive this gem in my inbox today:

You must get right with God and do the Christian thing and give me the proper information or else we are through and you will never hear from me again! Sorry about the mix up with the numbers. I double checked the receipt. I think the 3 got mixed up with the 8. The second number, I think. So it's an 8 when it should be a 3, or else the 3 should be 8 but looks like a three that's been smudged like an 8. I'm not sure. It's either an 8 or a 3. Go back tomorrow and see if that helps.

It could also be a 2. The lighting in this room is really bad.

I doubt he'll go back, but who knows?

Hey doc, you've just helped me learn something new today. I didn't know mg couldn't be tracked online. That's great to know. Mg is my new favorite payment method when bank transfers fail

Well, that MG thing is one very important fact to know when baiting. Well, at least if you use the wrong number modality. I just tell the lad that there is no MG near me.

As Mattaz pointed out, MG can be tracked online. It's been that way for awhile now. Evil or Very Mad

I've always used MG under the assumption it didn't have the online verification like WU does. It did used to be that way though, right? The weird thing is I've never had a lad correct me on that point when it comes up in a bait.

For the longest time MG didn't have an online status checker - this made it a handy alternative to WU (although many scammers figured out they could call up their MG office to check).

MG made a big deal about their revised "Track a Transfer" function earlier this summer (press releases around the second week of June) but I believe it's been around a while longer.

I can't remember who came up with this. But it's brilliant.

You give some excuse as to why MG won't send more than <insert smallish amount> in one single transaction. I say they were stress testing the system when I made payment.

Then send them half a dozen MG numbers for equal'ish amounts of what they want you to send. They have to give six numbers that are all duds, which causes maximum pain and embarrassment for them. Razz

Never ask the lad if they are checking online. Instead after the first few sets of wrong numbers ask the lad if he is informing the clerk that its a Moneygram Secure Transaction complete with security question and answer. Tell the lad that the question is "My car?" and that the answer is "Mercedes-Benz". Oh that's not right? It was supposed to be "What is my car?". Next time its " Mercedes Benz AMG 6.3" Remember that its always the lad's fault and to remind him to raise his voice like a real man at the MoneyGram outlet as the questions and answers are close enough to the real ones.

After a series of exchanges concerning the questions and answers dangle some more cash and inject more confusion by telling the lad that the reason there is an issue is that the manager on your side made the transaction $4,500.00 USD instead of $450.00USD (write it like that). You looked over your credit card statement and there is a transaction for $4,545.21. What ever the transaction was add a zero. That tends to get the lad's attention and serves as another reason the lad could not pick up the funds. Tell him its just a small amount and considering the difficulties the lad has experienced to just keep the difference.

Excellent advice CLG and windypops. I'll give both of those modalities a try.

I wonder why MG and WU chose to make it easy on scammers. Legitimate users don't need to check the numbers. Perhaps there are scammers (meaning not us) on the payment side.

Just like the development of a MG online capability is news to a lot of baiters, I think a lot of Lads don't know about it either.
