I didn't lose anything from going from 8.x to 10. Now i lost various IE things it "remembers" due to their new Edge browser. But I had mostly used Firefox or *gasp* chrome.

But yes always back up things you dont want to lose.

Several things to add here..

1) You have 30 days to "Roll Back" from 10 to 7/8.

2) The express install is not y0re friend. Use the custom install, read the small text. (You can edit preferences later, butt it's a P.I.T.A$$)

3) Media edition is gone, you will need to add extras from somewhere.

4) Even solitaire is pay to play now. Eff..

I've been running the "Insider Beta" for a year now.. Embarassed

One Dell i7 laptop, one HP Quad Xeon workstation on the new release of Windows 10.

Not impressed.. Perhaps after 6 months.. Rolling Eyes

Nothing wrong with my W7, and it has no problem converting more modern files for my cutting edge MS Offiice 2003. I'm a great believer in 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

Funny story in the UK press about a guy who left his computer on overnight, updating to W10, and woke to find the wife looking at his porn collection, cycling through on screen as his default screensaver.

Roy - I told the Mrs that it was a nasty virus the computer picked up from the shopping site I had been looking at in order to buy her a nice birthday present. I think I got away with it. Phew!

Upgrade? Why would I, I'd have to redo over half of my stuff/programs i use.

I still use Win98SE (highly modified/customized) and XP. Embarassed

(edited to add) Also seem to rarely be affected by viruses and such Smile

Have you tried Windows 2000? It is better than Windows XP. I wish that Windows XP was not made and Windows 2000 was the one to get 13 years of support. Windows 2000 is very similar to Windows XP but is more stable and runs faster. It has less unnecessary bloat.

As for me I have not installed windows 10 on my computer. I dual boot Windows 7 and Linux. I boot into windows an average of once a month (rough estimate).

Windows 10 about 2 weeks on has been good. No issues and has been stable so far for me.

It is much better than 8.x!

I'm using Windows 8.1 and have got used to it now, though I rued the loss of XP when I ditched my desk-top PC. However, I am about to get Windows 10 as a freebie from Microsoft, but now have great reservations as to whether to download it, or not. Even downloading the 8.1 update to Windows 8 caused some hiccups.

My wonderful Windows 7 laptop died a couple of months ago, forcing me to buy one with Windows 8 installed. I hated 8 with a passion and could never solve all the annoying little problems I had with it, so I bit the bullet and upgraded after learning what private information MS collects and how to protect myself.

I'm not having any trouble with it like I did with 8 and I'm hoping that I did everything right when it came to protecting my privacy.

I haven't had any low audio issues on Windows 10. I did on the latest 8.x version.

I watch a youtube video often, and various other video/audio formats.

for specs I have a higher-end Toshiba Laptop from late 2013/early 2014.

I upgraded two computers. One went OK, in the other my display was "stretched out" but I was able to fix it easily by updating the NIVIDEA driver.

As an accomplished time-waster with Free Cell and Solitaire, this really torqued me. You can still play, but you have to put up with ads that hold you up for as long as thirty seconds. And if you don't want the ads, it's not just "pay to play," it's by subscription! You have to pay monthly. Evil or Very Mad

Knickers to that, things were better 5 years ago, still getting used to 8.1 at the moment so no rush to upgrade despite the prompts!

Be thankful they updated that or you would have had a pile of melted plastic in your lap within 10 seconds.
