Biggest mistake you've made when dealing with a lad?

I was just wondering what the biggest mistake one of you guys has ever made when dealing with a lad, which you have been called out on instantly! My one was in my current bait, when he asked for a photo of me. I sent him a photo of a b-movie actor...but forgot to rename the file so it was blatantly obvious it was not my name.

Come on, surely not all of you are perfect! What has a lad instantly called B/S on? Laughing

I'll be the first to admit I'm not perfect, and I've never been shy about admitting my mistakes.

My biggest noob mistake was asking my lad for a photo trophy way too early (as in, 4th or 5th email exchange) in the bait. Bad, bad baiter.

My biggest dumb-ass mistake was when I copied an email from one of my accounts to use in a different account. I changed the name of the recipient to that of my current lad but forgot to change the signature line. Even worse, I'd already baited the lad as my other character, and he recognized the name. The lad didn't buy my excuse that my email had been harked, so I had no other way to wiggle out of that one.

A lad twigged when I baited him using an American and a British Character, I accidently wrote $23,500 in one email from the Father and £23,500 in an email from his British assistant, it was only an accident but he twigged; I avoid using characters of differing nationalities with different currencies now.

Posted my delivery address for a puppy on SW. The lad found my post, sent me a link to the post and called me a scammer.

He dumped me so I just bated him again and again. Laughing

I have to admit I'm close to perfect Smile

. I did call a lad as a dead character. I thought it was a different lad and started talking he starts saying "your dead" I thought it was a threat then I finally realized what happened.

One of the funniest screw ups that we still got away with was a call with DoraTheExplorer. We were doing this investigation for my fake church involving my clowns. Dora kept calling them clown lads. She would say "Do you know the other clown lads?" She didn't even realize she was calling them that. None of them caught on though.

I made a huge mistake. I like to bcc a friend of mine when I do baits. He is highly entertained. Once I merely cc:ed instead. The lad answered both of us and I dumped him immediately.

My first character kept asking for a physical street addy, coming dangerously close to helping the scammer become better. Then the old guy got too crotchety and the lad bailed.

I have posted IOU doc on SW resulted with lad identify who did it because other baiters on mass bait did not ask him IOU. I should post IOU but could have hidden the dates, not only hide my character's name.

Or when reporting fake web sites and forgot to remove (again) those addies.

Early on, my biggest mistake was letting lads go too quickly, or getting too frazzled at their requests. I had to learn to remain in control of the bait at all times (that's still a challenge, actually!)

But by far my biggest goofs have been responding from the wrong account (I sometimes blind cc one or more baiting addresses for various reasons), or signing the wrong name because I've switched accounts too many times in one session. I did that one time with Bacon Boi (in the Tour Operators thread) but I was delighted when he didn't notice my name change. He's still on the hook with one of my characters.

I can think of tons of missed opportunities at de-education.

My biggest mistake for sure was signing my real name at the end of an email. It was just automatic habit, same way i sign all my emails in my day job (which are far too many).

to avoid this in future I stopped using the same email client for work and baiting emails - this way the interface looks different, further reminding me I should not be in "auto-email" mode.

My very first bait i didn't know eater yet.It was a NOK scam by mail.I really wasn't aware off any danger.I did send my neighbour adress to receive the cash.I never would have tought byt not much later some black guy's on his door.Not so comon in a little Thai city.It was funny a gang off scammers knocking the door off a top ranked policeofficer.They never came back i wonder why?

It is funny that you guys have said this. I have only been back here a week or so and have already had a couple of photos. My technique is to listen to them on the phone ranting and raving about the transaction and then just say that I am ready to send the funds as long as I get a trophy. I simply say that I just need to verify that this is not a scam. It has worked twice for me in a week.

My biggest mistake was calling a lad with a long distance calling card. It was supposed to mask called ID, but when the lad called my cell phone direct at midnight the next day I learned the hard way that calling cards reveal your number.

Never dropped a lad faster than that.

In a similar way, all my characters' email accounts have different background themes and fonts - to remind me who I am when I'm writing there.

The only 'mistake' thing I've been caught out on wasn't actually a mistake, but a deliberate protection of ITPs. My character supposedly lived in a road of 12 houses. But she lived at number 26. The lad then sent me a Google satellite map, and images of Google Street View of the road. He didn't believe my squeaking about 'They've built another 14 houses since then!'

I prefer house names nowadays.

I've lost a few lads when I tried to push for a trophy picture, bank account, or safari too early. Now to make sure that doesn't happen, I deliberately go as slow as possible with all of my lads.

There are a few lads who have called me out on my de-education attempts, because they knew what the misspelled or misused words actually should be. I've usually managed to salvage those baits, but at the cost of some credibility with the lads, because I have to convince them that my character is an idiot, so they don't correctly conclude that he is a joker.

On the fake sites front, I've made my share of errors. I figure it's bound to happen when you report as many sites as I do. I've accidentally killed (or tried to kill) a few legitimate sites, I've sent follow up reports on sites that were already suspended, and I've even sent reports to the completely wrong company on a few occasions, only for them to politely (or sometimes not so politely) point out that they are not the hoster for that site.

I did that with a mass report to web.me a while ago, in the list of phone lad and fake bank links I sent them I forget to remove the 2 weebly sites when I copied the list from my notepad Embarassed

Let’s see…

I’ve signed my own name more times than I’d like to mention, signed the wrong name a time or two and been called on it…Um had photos questioned but I was able to recover from all of them by making up excuses.

My Silliest was when I was just starting and decided to see how far I could push Lads. My strategy was to hit the same Lad with multiple personae to see his breaking point. Even with notes on each character I got very confused toggling between Gmail accounts and ended up screwing up most of the Baits BUT not all mind you:

Uhm...as oscarpiles can attest, we just sent a lad on safari. The character I used is my second oldest persona and had signed on at a baiter guest book. Guess who found it while on safari...
