They simply bend their religion to justify their criminal behavior. It's easy to steal if you believe God is always going to forgive you for it. Or because you're in a crappy situation, like living in a corrupt country with high unemployment, God's going to understand why you scam. Or you've convinced yourself that your victim is somehow a "bad" person, so God's not going to care if you take their money. Etc. . . .
