One of the worst days of my life was the day I had to put down my Christmas Puppy (Given to me on Christmas Eve of 1983). He was such a good Boy and I still miss him.

My sympathies. I had a loved dog put down last year as I held it, I cried like a baby.

My sympathies. Losing a pet may seem trivial to someone who has never had one. But having had to put three down over the years, I can empathize with what you are going through.

That's what community is about. As I'm sure you're seeing, the people here are there for one another in all sorts of situations. Being that many of us see our own pets more like our children, we can all feel your pain. Never think of anything you post as trivial because there's always some here that can relate.

Thank you all. As my family has always had a lot of animals (my mom is a dog shower/breeder and they love cats, horses, goats etc) I've had to deal with the loss of pets since I've been a little boy. I'm almost 25 now and I tell you what... it never gets any easier. But it's always good to have a support system of friends.

On the bright side, the local sheriff's department is sending a detective to come over and conduct a background check on me. I applied for employment there November 2013, took their test, and after the veterans got their preference points, I was #26 on the wait list. Out of 200 plus. I scored very high on the written test and panel interview. I am so excited about this! If all goes well I will be a sheriff's deputy by the end of the year!

I think it great you have something to focus on. So sad about your cat, I'd hate to have it happen to my lovely cat. The last cat I had put to sleep was 22 and she was just an amazing friend.

I got my cat back after she had been missing for two years. I'd long thought she was dead but a friend went somewhere for an early call and saw her on a wall..she'd been living in a bush at the bottom of a street of elderly housing and they had been feeding her ! So... I thank my lucky stars for every day with her.

Excellent news on the job... I am sure you will be in that post later this year....congratulations in advance !

Sorry to hear about your cat JB Sad

Last year I had to part my way with two kittens of mine, as it turned out family member is allergic. Sending them to their new home was equally bad for me, so I know that feel.

But congrats on the career opportunity! Hope it turns out OK for you!
