I have been corresponding with this man for about 8 months, he at first friend requested me on facebook and of course I accepted and talk to him for a brief moment and then didn't talk to him for awhile.... then he contacts me again on facebook and we just had idle chit chat and he said he was leaving the state for a few days and then I didn't hear from him for a couple of days and then the next time I heard from him which was 2 or 3 daysmlater he said he was in Nigeria which when I talked to him a few days earlier he said he was in Michigan. when he said he was leaving out of the state for a week I think it was, I thought he was going to another state...WRONG!... he goes by the name of ...DAVID WILLIAMS he says he is a engineer and is now stranded in Nigeria and then starts to ask me for money, by the way he is very very persuasive and being gulable I have sent him money for one thing or another, its always something, I have ask him many times to prove to me who he is by sending me a pic with a note say hi to me with my name on it but he always seems to have a excuse, I talk to him through a messaging program called viber, he says he is unable to send pics because he only has a pager phone and it doesn't have a camera but he somehow manages to check his email and things, says he needs money for food and to pay the bill where he is staying and now wants me to send him money to get here, and needs 3000 dollars, PLEASE SOMEONE KNOCK SOME SENSE INTO ME, WAKE ME UP!. I cant remember now how he talked me into this but he has my home address and that worries me now, this whole thing has turned into a big mess, im stressed everyday, I need someone to talk to!. there is a lot more to this but I would be here all day typing. thanks for your time and thanks for reading, I hope to hear from someone.

I do believe you have done that to yourself already.
You know he is a scammer.

Things to do:
STOP ALL CONTACT WITH HIM
Go to scamwarners and expose him.
List the details regarding this vile criminal.
Block him on FB.
Tell every single one of your contacts on FB that he is a Nigerian scammer.
He is probably attempting to scam them as well.
Hide your timeline (or close your FB account)
Do not reply to him. Do not seek revenge and do NOT tell him you exposed him.
Every single message you receive through FB or your email account (if he has your email address) from a stranger is probably that lad attempting to be run a 'recovery FBI, EFCC, Anthing' scam.
If he has your phone number, block him. Don't answer your phone.
Use voice mail and screen your calls.

Hi,
Ginger is absolutely right-you've taken the first steps. Now, do not contact him-block your phone or screen your calls. Block him on FB and set your account to maximum privacy. If you have emailed him, block his email account. Don't respond to email or messages from strangers.

I am so sorry this happened to you. Do follow the advice given by Ginger and Capone, they've seen this time and time again.

Don't beat yourself up or think that you're just gullible for falling for this. The scammers are professional liars - that is their only job and they are good at what they do because they have all the time in the world to practice their "skill". It can happen to any one from your most brilliant rocket scientist to the stay at home mom. But now you know what red flags to look for and will know hot to avoid scum like this in the future.

Checklist time.

Stranger contacted you out of the blue.
Lied about location.
Claims to be an "engineer."
Goes by the name "DAVID WILLIAMS" http://bit.ly/191xSVx
Stranded in Nigeria. Has no family, friends, co-workers or employer that could help him, just a stranger he met 8 months ago.
Unable to send a picture, yet has pictures on FB, I would guess.
Uses a "pager phone?" What is that? Is that English? is this 1995?
Same phone is able to access the internet (Viber, FB, email), but has no camera.
Again, needs money for basic survival, but has no employer to pay him, nor friends or family.

I do not mean to come across as "harsh," but, as Ginger Lee said, you don't need us to tell you he's a scam. You already know it is. We will confirm it sounds like and has all the tell-tale signs of one. I'm glad you found Eater, but I wish it hadn't been under these circumstances. Now that you've found us, follow the advice above, most importantly, visiting www.scamwarners.com They can offer further advice and help you post details about this scammer so others do not fall victim.

You're going to be tempted to get in touch with him, call him names, curse him, etc. Please, please, please do not. Every time you communicate with him, that's one more chance he will have of convincing you all over again. You will also be tempted to tell him you know he is a scammer and you have shared it with the world. That just makes ScamWarners job more difficult. These are cold-hearted criminals and he will close down the account and open another within minutes. Then information that has been posted and could help others would be moot and we would "lose track of him."

Hi,

To add to what everyone else has already said, as long as you don't re-establish contact with the scammer or antagonize him, there is no reason to worry that he has your home address.

Flying up from Nigeria costs money and no scammer would spend money just to put himself at risk of running afoul with a former victim or with law enforcement. As everyone else has told you, break off all contact with the scammer, don't believe anyone who tells you that they can get your money back and, above all, do not try to get vengeance on him.

I am so sorry to hear about what happened to you. Please visit our sister site www.scamwarners.com. They can help you get over the pain that this scammer has caused. Also if you post the details of this scam you will prevent someone else from having to go through the same thing.

You have every right to be angry, but be angry with the scammers and not with yourself. Some victims get taken for every last penny. You figured this out on your own. Take pride in that.

Take a step back and take all the time you need to heal. Your personal well-being is the most important aspect here. If you have any questions we are all here for you.
