This was the greeting I received when for the first time in 63 years I became a hospital inpatient, on St. Valentine’s Day, (Just missed Al Capone).
Starting this story at the beginning, back the previous month January 2015, I think it was delayed shock, after my Bath lift broke down; I had to have a bath in the bath, lost my balance instead and finished up falling backwards, missed the sink and radiator, fell on my back and did not feel a thing. Next day the top of my left thigh really hurt, badly bruised, about a week later I had leg sores appear on my lower left leg, these were weeping at an alarming rate, sock, shoe and trouser leg soaking, tried dressing them myself, but still had go to the doctors (wait and see) surgery.
So it was one of these times. On the 13/2/15 see the nurse to have my leg dressed tried to get some anti biotic but the doctor had finished and gone.
The nurse applied a dry covering to weeping wounds and told me to come back on Monday the 17th February 1015.
Did my leg hurt with this dry covering, that I was taking pain killers, in the finish I had to call our non emergency service 111, I was asked about how many pain killers had I taken in the last 24 hours, I guessed about 10 doses, when the operator came to earth in no uncertain terms I was told to get to the hospital within one hour.
This now left me with a problem, 3 in fact, one how to get to the hospital, tried contacting our son he was out, but I left a message, then tried my brother-in-law he was in then, he and his wife came around, he was not allowed to drive, just had an operation on his shoulder the previous Monday, so it finished up, his wife looked after my wife, I’m her full time carer and my brother-in-law came with me to the hospital, our son turned up at the hospital, so that side of things sorted its self out.
So there was I in the waiting room which was packed in A/E but I was pulled out and taken to the ready room.
Had not taken anything with me, just rushed to the hospital.
The dressing on my leg was removed along with the skin and being exposed to the air, was added pain and punishment, I could have done without. Ended up in a backless hospital gown, first chance I had, I grabbed a second gown and wore it with opening at the front that covered me front and back.
In there for 18 days coming out on Wednesday 4th March.
Didn’t like their food vegetables were steamed cooked, didn’t have them, lost a stone in weight.
Having your blood sugar taken every couple of hours, suggested to the student nurse who was doing it that she use her finger, when I was asked which finger.
Had a patient moved out of the isolation ward into our ward, I was talking to him, when I came away my nose started running and I started sneezing , told a nurse I though I had a cold, she told the doctor it appears he had flu, so we all got issued with a 10 day flu course.
Had my dressing changed at the doctors, the injury had dried up, just sores with a scab, however do they itch, applying a cream to ease the itch.
Get home, tried my computer, just had it lock up and the screen go black, took a week to fix, been trying to load up everything since.
So the 3rd thing could not get into eater, remembered last time login at the bottom of index page, which is how I have managed to post this. |

Well, the 3 bad things are over, yes they do come in threes....
Hope you are feeling better.
You made it back here, which proves that persistence pays off in the end.

Awwww, Fo'andles --
I'm so sorry to learn of your injury and ill health -- in addition to the ton of aggravation that has accompanied your pain and discomfort
Please take good care of yourself. I do hope your son and his wife are able to help you out somewhat, until you have completely recovered, anyway. |

Thanks to you all for your kind thoughts.
Yes Juan, sounds like you are on the verge of being old
Still having my leg dressed, feels like it is burning, could be a mistake putting a dry wound dressing on, will see tomorrow.
KOD, my wife is disabled, I'm her full time carer, our son have not seen.
Whilst in hospital had contacted 2 of my 3 brothers, no on had told them I was in hospital, had my brother working just down the road, its his birthday today he is 68, just out of intrested my other 2 brothers are 66 and 61 this year.
Brought home from hospital by my brother.
Contacted the hospital today, after information and to mention about the food served to patients and a couple of other things.
I'm claiming from a health service I'm in for the time I was in hospital, 18 days times £90 per day = £1620 |
