What is the origin of referring to 419 scammers as 'lads' and why do we call them? |

When Nigeria emerged as a hotspot for 419 crime, the expression "Lads from Lagos" was coined. The expression stuck, but was shortened to "lads" for convenience. |

Scamorama may have originated the expression. If not, they certainly put it on the map. That's where I first encountered it over 11 years ago. It's a handy shorthand term for scammers, even if not from Lagos.  |
