Yesterday around 9 (14 UTC) I got a piggy and reported it. Some hours later I sent the lad a transfer (which he can't read, see my post in HH&T). An hour ago he sent me a message:

to stop that payment now and resend it with this new one below.

accompanied by another bank account, which like the previous one is in the UAE. I suspect that this Emirati bank won't like being sent a ḣanzir any more than the other Emirati bank did.

I've read 'Escape from Dubai' about 5 times already. If the author (who escaped persecution by going undercover and eventually sailing to India) is to be believed, UAE is a police state, where the fences are designed to keep immigrant workers in, not keep others out. I would imagine that the UAE authorities might take very seriously any evidence of scams originating from Dubai.

He sent me an unclear message about the slip yesterday, then nothing. I suspect that the second Emirati account went up in flames and he twigged.

tons of info here to get at least 2 people in jail in Dubai....if only there wouldn't be that general "Mule Innocence" presumption

Not that you are saying otherwise, MG, but this is a good place to comment that the presumtion of Mule innocence is absolutely necessary. Unless a mule outright tells you that he is aware he is laundering money, one must always assume the mule is a dupe--and that the scammer using him will just as readily scam him as well once he's lost usefulness. This does not mean that there aren't many willing mules, merely that we cannot assume it without proof.

I'm not a staff member here; however, I have observed for a number of years that the ITP guidelines are among those very important, sometimes hair-splitting things that keep us from becoming anything like the very things we abhore.

Scammers will inflict any pain on any innocent if it means getting what they want. We will not inflict pain on innocents, even if it means that we do not get what we want.
