There have been more than a few posts lately full of leeting. It's not necessary except in very, very, very rare cases and to protect a few of the modalities here.

Instead of rewriting some great past posts (and don't necro them):

It is preferable to post the initial email with details at ScamWarners and/or post it in Surplus with a link to it in your first post. Likewise, if your baiting character has a distinctive name and you don't want to risk it being googled, then change it to Sarah or Peter or similar.

If the humour of your bait depends upon the funny name of your character but you want to hide your spelling of that name, then, again, instead of leeting it, change it slightly, making Ivor Stiffwun into Ivor Stiffwon or Ivor Hardwun.

Copying your emails into a text document and then selecting Edit...Replace will make this a much less tedious task!

In case the OP causes a TLDR reaction in anyone, what I think friend Bware here is trying to convey is the same piece of advice that my mentees have heard to the point of thinking I must be a bot programmed to repeat it. Whether it concerns safe baiting, IP hysteria, baiting ideas or dress code, it's always this:

PLEASE. USE. COMMON. SENSE!

Thank you for this thread! I despise leeting!!! (very hard for me to read, I have very poor eyesight and it's hard for me to decipher words).

Now, when you say dress code...are pajamas okay? Lounge wear? Do I have to wear stilettos? Do you have to wear stilettos?

Couple additional points...

1. How likely are your results to really point to eater in a google search?
For example, a lad looking for "Anakin Skywalker" from my baits is always going to get Star Wars pages not eater.

2. Is there a way to disguise the name other than leeting?
I had a lad in a bait I am publishing now where I changed the name by switching from a typically American to a typically British spelling. Can Tom become Thom or Mariam become Maryam, etc.?

When I post about my longest standing character I just write Sue P----- or simply Sue. When I post about a lad I usually change his name to "my lad" or "Lagos lad" or whatever.

There are infinite ways to avoid Google, without leeting. All it takes is a moment's effort.

Generally, just using a first name will not lead them here. This applies to lad and baiter names.

While the Email address is slightly different, I post my characters Huge Organ and Anita Fullerbox here as such.

Sierra will lead to a brewer or mountain range, but I only use her first name.

Mary Jane's last name references a smoking device I have heard might be used for smoking...well, her first name. But it's easier just to put MJB.

As for lads, one named Djimbe, became Dummy the Lad. Femmy is an alternate spelling.

There are many options. If your lad is Williams Thomas, it's your bait. Name him BillTom if you wish.

This is a great and well needed post ..again thanks

I,m not great on the internet but i am no mug where these Lads are concerned or anything that can be a con and how far they will go to progress to get one step ahead .

I think many a Newbie like myself have just tried there best as they went along , i had never heard of leeting until i read this post to be honest i just know what ever you post on the internet can be picked up in google searches etc .

Personally i have found loads of info on the internet because i know where to look so i was trying to make 100 % sure no "LAD" could find this forum from one of my posts and gain from it and get a victim .

Even deleted information can be seen from years ago , again if you know how to search for it and get lucky .

I appreciate that this is probably beyond most "Lads" but i,m no expert far from it and have got where constipation pills can't to gain information .

The more they get baited perhaps the better they will get eventually and use google to see if there scams are being logged etc , the lazy thicko ones will fail and the expert lads will learn / multiply , progress and fleece victims .

I ended up here simply by googling scammer , what stops the Lads from doing so and reading all this and gaining from it .

Any more thoughts from anyone ?

The above has crossed my mind since i joined .

google is a big part of why I don't use terrance's Mr G and his gang, because googling them brings you to the various threads where it was used (and the old site he had set up for them).

I admit i am paranoid ..lol.. but i have much more i could share but being paranoid i dont want to post and risk a scammer seeing it Confused

It was all self taught by an internet numpty (me) .

Seriously if i can do it the Lads wont be that far behind imvho .

My poor mentees...if they learn nothing else, it's to use Eater's "Search Function" and to FGI. Read what was posted initially and the threads that were linked.

For example: A Search for "Gomer." I scrolled through 5 pages and Eater never came up once. Same with a Yahoo search.

Call every lad, "Lad" and your character "My Character." Boom. Simple. Done. And everyone can easily read it.

If you need a simple way to change the names, let me help you with that.

Let's say you have a character named Angie O'Plastigh. Instead of "Angi3 0'P1astigh", you can write "Anցie Ο'Plaѕtigh". The search engines won't recognize it, but it looks the same to the eye.
